The Citizen, 2015-04-09, Page 17THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 9, 2015. PAGE 17. UCW planning theatre trip to Blyth Festival show I feel as though this week’s column is filled with upcoming activities for all in Londesborough and area to keep in mind in the coming weeks. Your support for all of these events will be appreciated. And as they say, doing something for someone else usually ends up being a heartwarming experience. The Londesborough Happy Gang Seniors no longer host a card party in support of the Clinton Public Hospital Auxiliary. However, these card parties are still ongoing in the area and you might continue your support at another location, and they all promise dessert and coffee. Next Monday, April 13, you could play euchre or bridge at the Blyth Legion at 1 p.m. The Clinton United Church offers an afternoon of cards on Thursday, April 9 at 1 p.m. The Bayfield United Church hosts two events on Friday, April 17, 1 and 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome at these locales. Cost is $5. The Londesborough UCW is planning a theatre outing to Blyth again this summer. Decisions regarding this evening will be solidified at the next UCW meeting so stay posted and plan to be part of the group. An annual event for UCW members is Westminster Weekend in London. The date for this year’s event is May 1-3. Contact Laura Scott if you are interested in attending. The Campsite Experience for UCW is set for June 8 at Camp Menesetung. Keep this date in mind as the spring advances. Speaking of camp, this year’s ‘wish list’ can be found in various locations in the church. Check it out and see if there is something on the list you could help them with. Needs range from maintenance supplies to sports items, office needs and, of course, craft supplies. A new date was included on the Easter Sunday order of service at Londesborough United Church. The stewards are hosting a take-out supper on Wednesday, May 13. These Swiss Chalet suppers will be picked up in the church basement. Tickets will be available at Nature’s Nest and Radford’s Farm Equipment. Speaking of supporting great causes, friends and family of Mike and Stacey Lyons have done just that. Last spring their son, Connor, made his arrival into the world a tad early and for one month Stacey lived at Ronald MacDonald House in London in order to be near him. She states she would not know quite how she would have coped without the House. In appreciation she petitioned relatives and acquaintances to make donations. The Lions Clubs of both Londesborough and Auburn happily helped as well. Along with gift cards, toys and cupboard supplies the couple delivered $1,800 in cash to the House on March 20. The village applauds your generosity, Mike and Stacey. Villagers probably noticed moving activity last weekend. Grant and Sandy Bergsma became farm owners and Bruce and Marie Bergsma moved into the house they vacated. It seems all of Bruce and Marie’s children were on hand to help with the switch. Grant will appreciate having more room for his construction business and his parents will appreciate smaller quarters. Council and staff have been planning the meetings for months. The meetings will take place on Thursday, April 9 at 12 p.m. at the Benmiller Inn and Friday, April 10 at 8:30 a.m. also at the Benmiller Inn. Among other things, ways in which the county’s recently realized benefits plan surplus of $350,000 can be allocated will be discussed.
