Premier Kathleen Wynne is
looking to honour innovators in the
world of agri-food and she’s looking
for nominees.
Huron County Council received
correspondence from the Ministry of
Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
(OMAFRA) last month asking for
nominees at the county level in a
letter addressed to Huron County
Warden Paul Gowing.
There will be nearly 50 winners of
the award. Forty-five innovators
across the province will win $5,000
each for their work, while the top
innovators will be honoured
separately.
The top prize, the Premier’s
Award, comes valued at $75,000,
followed by the Minister’s Award at
$50,000 and three Leaders in
Innovation Awards, valued at
$25,000 each.
All recipients will receive a
plaque, a farm gate sign and the use
of the Premier’s Award program
woodmark, which businesses can
use for their marketing efforts going
forward.
The call for nominations opened
in early February, but does not close
until April 10, 2015 at 5 p.m.
Details on eligibility, innovation
categories, assessment criteria, the
application and selection processes
can be found at www.ontario.ca/

Hamlet hazards
Hullett Central Public School students participated in a very special safety exercise through
Hydro One late last month. Kevin Gapp, an area technician for the utility company, was on
hand to show the children how to stay safe around potential electrical hazards and to show
them some of the gear that the company uses to make sure that technicians and other
employees like himself don’t get shocked. (Denny Scott photo)
