Just days before St. Patrick’s Day it was time to celebrate at the Belgrave Community Centre
with the community’s annual wing night to help mark the Irish occasion. Butch Logan, left,
Harvey Black, centre, and Cam Procter, right, were on point on Saturday night, serving wings
in a timely fashion to the dozens of hungry diners in attendance. (Vicky Bremner photo)Have A New

The
Citizen
BIA photo contest to conclude
The Blyth Business Improvement
Area’s (BIA) photo contest will
carry on despite the closure of The
Gift Cupboard on Blyth’s main
street.
Janice Peters, the owner of the
commercial location, was in charge
of the program, however recently -
named Vice-Chair Peter Gusso said
he would take over the contest.
Peters has told The Citizen that,
while she will no longer be in the
commercial space, she does plan on
continuing offering framing services
from an undecided location.
Gusso said that, after he took over
the contest, he would start looking at
setting an conclusion date for the
next project since spring weather
would hopefully be arriving soon.
“I’ll look into that for the next
meeting in April,” he said.

The BIA’s associate membership
cost, which was debated at its recent
annual general meeting, was again
discussed at the BIA’s March 4
meeting.
In addressing concerns with the
cost of the program, which allows an
organization to become a non-voting
member of the BIA, Community
Improvement Co-ordinator Ashleigh
Scott found that cost wasn’t as much
a barrier as some detractors felt.
“The people I spoke to said they
could write it off as a business
expense,” she said. “The problem
that they outlined was that the BIA
needs more of a track record. They
have choices as far as joining
different BIAs so we need to look at
getting more of a track record to
draw them in.”
Scott said the BIA could look at
adjusting the costs, however no one
commented on the opportunity.

Hospital auxiliary
seeks new members
Continued from page 6
ensure we maintain it.
In 2012, the Auxiliary was
presented with a plaque by the
Wingham and District Hospital
Foundation recognizing it as an
“outstanding donor”; from 1999 to
2007, the Auxiliary had raised an
amazing $84,000 for the hospital. In
the last seven years, the Auxiliary
has kept up this remarkable pace.
But in order to continue its work
for the hospital, the auxiliary needs
new members. New members bring
new energy, new ideas and helping
hands. The time commitment is not
heavy. Meetings are held only every
second month with a hiatus from the
end of June to the end of September.
Meetings rarely last more than 90
minutes and end with coffee, baked
goods and an opportunity to
socialize. There’s often an
informative and interesting guest
speaker, followed by a lively
question and answer period and
members are kept up to date with the
latest hospital developments.
Besides attending meetings, you
may be asked to man the card table
at the post office or bake some
squares for the poinsettia tea, but
these requests will be few and far
between. And you will have the
satisfaction of knowing you are
working for your local hospital.
If you have a little free time, we
urge you to join the Wingham and
District Hospital Auxiliary. You will
make a difference. Come to our next
meeting on Monday, April 20 at 1:30
p.m. in the Terrace Room of the
Wingham Hospital, or contact Trudy
