The Crusaders started the series off on the right foot with a 4-2 win over Lambton. Over the weekend, the squad traveled to Forest to to take on their competition at The Shores Recreation Centre on March 14 and struck the first blow in the six-point series. “We got off to a roaring start,” said coach Scott Johnston. “We scored three goals in the first few minutes.” The first three goals were scored by Curtis Raynard, Austin Johnston and Brendan Howson. However, Johnston said, things didn’t go well after that. “The boys started to relax and the other team kept chipping away at us and managed to get two goals in the second period.” In the third, Scott Dolmage scored for the Crusaders, giving them the insurance goal for the win. Johnston said the team has to focus on not relaxing or they may give up a win that’s theirs for the taking. “It was pretty impressive, right off the bat,” he said. “I guess we got the deal done, and that’s all that counted, but now we know we can’t relax.” The win marks two of the necessary six points for a series win and provincial crown. Games two and three of the series are set in the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre at 7 p.m. on March 21 and 3 p.m. on March 22. Subsequent games, if necessary, are scheduled for March 27 at 8 p.m. in Forest, March 28 at 6 p.m. in Brussels and 2 p.m. on March 29 in Forest. The Crusaders have had some close series and some not-so-close series in their drive to the championship. Most recently, the squad swept Tweed in the OMHA semi-finals three games to nothing, earning a 3- 2 win in Tweed and 4-0 and 6-3 wins at home. Prior to that, the Crusaders bested Muskoka, winning three of the four games played in the series. Their play-off drive started against Goderich when the two squads faced off for the the Western Ontario Athletics Association AE Group 4 Series B finals. Despite being the first series, the squad had the most trouble against them, edging out their most local competition six points (three wins) to four points, or three games to two. (Vicky Bremner photo) Grobbink returns to Huron after HealthKick to practice naturopathy HealthKick originally began as a pilot project in 2005 as a local health initiative to help address the shortage of healthcare human resources within the rural area of Huron County. One significant mandate of the program was to develop opportunities for local youth to learn about local healthcare opportunities in hopes for these youth not only to choose a career in healthcare, but also to return to the Huron County area to practice their chosen profession. Since its beginning, the program has proven to have numerous successes, winning several provincial awards, and continual funding based on its successes. HealthKick takes pride in sharing its success stories with the community and following up with past program participants to find out how HealthKick impacted their career choice. Rosanna Grobbink, a Walton-area native and past HealthKick participant, has recently returned to the Huron County area to practise in Goderich as a naturopathic doctor at Good Earth Naturopathic Centre. While completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph, Rosanna had the opportunity to be a participant in numerous programs offered by HealthKick. During her time with HealthKick, she assisted Physician Recruitment Leader Gwen Devereaux and HealthKick Program Manager Laura Overholt, with daily operations of the HealthKick program, including the planning and implementation of a MedQUEST camp for local high school students. After reflecting on her experiences, Roseanna knows her participation in the program played a significant role in her decision for her chosen healthcare career and her decision to return back to the county to practise as a Naturopathic Doctor. While participating with HealthKick she had multiple opportunities to learn about various healthcare professions, which allowed her to assess her own skill set and interests to determine which career would best suited for her. This included having the opportunity to shadow and network with various healthcare professionals. After spending a year practising as a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) in an urban centre, Rosanna has decided to return to Huron County. As a ND, she is excited to return to the rural way of life and to act as a complement to current healthcare BBMHA/BCH/Seaforth Girls Hockey Registration We are taking registrations for the upcoming 2015/2016 season The registration package can be found on the website at www.bchminorhockey.ca or www.blythbrusselsminorhockey.ca For more information please contact Diane Howson at 519-523-9050 or jdhowson@ezlink.ca Any girls that are interested in playing we provide divisions from Novice through to Midget.
