The Citizen, 2015-03-19, Page 3THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2015. PAGE 3. Elliott named chair, Gusso vice for Blyth BIA exec. At its March 4 meeting, the Blyth Business Improvement Area (BIA) named its board of directors and executive for the 2015 year. The group features some familiar faces as well as some new ones. For the first time since its inception, the group had more nominees named than spots on the board, however not all of the nominees attended the first meeting of the new board on March 4 or the annual general meeting of the group in February, so, without accepting their nominations, they were removed from the list of potential board members. After extensive debate, the final list of commercial representatives includes Genny Smith representing Huron Adventures, Averly Kikkert representing the Queens Café, Irene Kellins from Stitches with a Twist, Cat O’Donnell from The Wonky Frog, Peter Gusso of Part II Bistro and The Station House Bed and Breakfast and Rick Elliott of the 237 King Street Corporation. Other members are Gary van Leeuwen representing local churches, John Stewart representing local service groups, Lissa Kolkman representing the Blyth Horticultural Society, Deb Sholdice from the Blyth Festival and North Huron Council Representative Bill Knott. The group’s executive includes Elliott as chair, Gusso as vice-chair, van Leeuwen as treasurer and Stewart as secretary. Signing authority for the organization was also set. Van Leeuwen, Elliott and Gusso are the three individuals able to sign cheques and financial documents for the BIA. (Denny Scott photo) By Denny Scott The Citizen Lessons of Gandhi shared with congregation Greeting worshippers at Blyth United Church on Sunday, March 15 was Terry Richmond. Ushering were Elaine Chamney and Lissa Kolkman. Floyd Herman was music director and Rick Elliott ran the power point. John Stewart welcomed everyone to church and drew attention to the announcements printed in the bulletin. Special mention that the Sunday School was preparing an Irish lunch for after church that morning. Also the ladies only have three more pie days until next fall. If you wish to order call Joann MacDonald. He also reminded the women that the UCW meeting is on March 26 at 1 p.m. and roll call would be something for the kitchen supplies like pickles, sugars, Jell-o powders, etc. John invited everyone to greet one another. The centring music was “My Love Colours Outside the Lines.” The prayer of approach was said responsively along with the sign language in the response. Reid Button sang the solo part of the song “Me Alone”, joined by the choir and congregation. The interactive scripture was the story of David and King Saul from Samuel 24. King Saul went into a cave to rest and it happened to be the cave that David and his men were hiding in. David’s men wanted him to kill King Saul, but David didn’t want to do that, so he took a piece of King Saul’s clothing and when King Saul woke up, David showed him the piece of cloth and told him that he was not interested in killing him. The children were invited to come to the front for their story time. Sarah Hallahan placed the last word - Wellness, in the circle of Holy currencies. Rev. Clark told the children that if the church were well, we would be happy just like when we feel well we are happy. Rev. Clark invited Janice, Kurtis and Phillip Bromley to come to the front to paint the colour yellow and brown on the loaves of bread on the painting at the front. Floyd Herman told a short history of the anthem “God of Our Fathers” which the choir sang. Rev. Clark’s message to the congregation was “Facing the Storm.” Jesus has taught us how to face the storms in life. The congregation watched a short video of Gandhi and a minister meeting up with some rough boys in the neighbourhood. Even though they called them names, Gandhi and the minister walked through the boys on their way. We should face the storms of life with courage. We have faith to face the storms that occur in our lives. David reduces King Saul’s fear of David becoming king. The last supper shows how Jesus wants us to face the storms of life. We need our friends and family to help us face them. We need to have faith that Jesus loves us and will be with us during the many storms of life that we will encounter. We need to attend to the wellness of our communities and churches. When the storm breaks we can learn from it. The hymn “Here, O My Lord, I See You Face to Face” was sung. The receiving of the offering was followed by singing of the offertory response “For Food in a World”, the offertory prayer, prayers of the people, silent prayers and the singing of the Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn “Throughout These Lenten Days” was followed by the singing of the “Three Fold Amen.” Everyone was invited downstairs to join the Sunday School children for an Irish lunch of stew, potato bread, hot dogs and ice cream sundaes. Swinging Srs. to meet THE EDITOR, All the workers did a fantastic job this winter clearing streets, parking lots and roads in and around Blyth and they deserve a big thank you. I heard that they were sometimes out as early as 3 a.m. on the cold, stormy mornings and it must be true because, even when I was going in to work for 7 a.m. the way was already clear. And of course, their work was not finished then, but they often had to continue on throughout the day as the storms continued. Just wanted them to know that their hard work and dedication is appreciated. Jane Ryan, Blyth. Resident thanks road crews for winter work He groaned, bled, and died for you! (John MacDuff,“Encouragements to Patient Waiting” 1864) “Yes, I have loved you, My people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to Myself!” Jeremiah 31:3 Christian, think on what Christ has already done for you. He groaned, bled, and died for you! You were lost and on your way to Hell -- but He found you! You were His enemy -- but He reconciled you! You were a captive of the devil -- but He freed you! You were blind to your desperate condition -- but He cured you! You were dead in sin -- but He quickened you! As deep as is the mountain of our guilt -- deeper, far deeper is that ocean of infinite love in which God has promised to bury it forever, and to remember it no more against us! Oh! when you reflect how He has watched over you, since He has saved you -- how He has...preserved you from dangers, supported you in seasons of temptation, sustained you in times of trial, nourished you in days of sickness, comforted you in the hours of despondency! Surely, you cannot surely imagine that He will now desert you; you cannot believe that He will so mar the work of His own hands -- the labour of His own love -- as to cast you off, and leave you to perish! If He sought you when His enemy -- will He not take care of you when His child? “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully!” Ephesians 3:19 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956
