March Break marks
visits, sleepovers,
sports and activities
Lots of folks are sleeping in this
week, just doing what they feel like,
and so the March Break continues.
Travel for some, visiting and
sleepovers for others and some pool
time, rink time or game time, all
enjoyable ways to spend the leisure
hours. So I hope you make some
good March memories.
Lent is moving right along, so
plans for Easter and spring come
next in the thought pattern. Lucky
us, the snow is slipping away
gradually and the green sprouts of
spring are peeking out, getting ready
for the next move.
It seems we talk an awful lot about
change. In our head we know it
happens, and has to happen, for the
world to function. but really, when
change messes in our lives, it really
can be irritating. See it clearly and
decide your action. Like everything
else in life, it all depends on how we
look at the situation. Attitude is 90
per cent of how life happens, So, see
the change clearly. See it for today,
not with thoughts of decades ago but
what is really going on right now.
Things change, people leave and
die but you are here and can make
good things happen. Your attitude
and what you say will greatly affect
the outcome of the changes in your
life. For me looking at the changing
world through the eyes of
growing granddaughters, the lens
gets clear.
I have Robyn here and one job for
us is sorting the dress-up room.
Hopefully the eyes of a 12-year-old
girl and her grandmother will make a
dint in the overflowing accumulation
of clothing that we thought were
needed as little girls played in their
imaginative situations. The rabbit
suit that Curt wore really has to go!
Enjoy the fresh air. Take care of
yourself.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

A NOTE FROM BETTY
NEWS
FROM BRUSSELS
Wing time
The Brussels Legion hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Day wing, fries and meat draw night on
Saturday evening. Hard-working volunteers like Jo-Ann McDonald made sure there were
plenty of wings to go around. (Denny Scott photo)
Cardiff named v-p of ag. society
At the March 4 meeting of the
Brussels Agricultural Society, Matt
Cardiff was named the
organization’s vice-president.
Cardiff is the son of former
president Jeff Cardiff and has been
involved with the Society and the
Brussels Fall Fair for a number of
years.
The position had been vacant
since the Society’s annual general
meeting last month when no one
would let their name stand for it.
Cardiff told those assembled at the
meeting, held at the Brussels
Library, that he was happy to take on
the position, but that he would be
tapping everyone in the room for
support in the coming year.

Home Craft President and former
Society President Nicole Noble said
she was encouraged by recent
correspondence she’s had with those
at the Brussels Library.
In speaking with librarian Kim
Yuzma recently, Noble said that
Yuzma is looking into implemented
a children’s program that would feed
into exhibiting at the Brussels Fall
Fair.
Noble said that various projects,
like crafts and artwork, could be
undertaken and carried out at the
library, encouraging area children to
exhibit their work at the fair.
Noble said the news was welcome
and she looks forward to the
program and the results it’s expected
to yield.

Secretary Brian Schlosser
informed those in attendance that
two donations had been received in
the past month, including one from
Allan Johnston Transport for $150
and one from the Municipality of
Huron East for $1,000.
At the Branch
Legion hosts St. Patrick’s wing night event
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a normal week around the
Brussels Legion Branch with Cadets,
the Brussels Legion Pipe Band
practice, darts and dinner. The Cadets
held their regular routine meeting and
had the Tuesday of March Break off.
The Thursday night darts had 12
darters out to play. Winners were:
first, Roger McHardy and Sheron
Stadelmann; second, Deb Burch and
John Stadelmann; high, Deb, 131.
The Friday night supper of Irish
stew with baby potatoes, macaroni
and cheese and salad was enjoyed by
approximately 20 diners. This week
is turkey pot pie.
The St. Patrick’s wings, fries and
meat draws had a nice bunch
enjoying the night. Over 30 people
enjoyed the food, prizes and played
some darts. Helping for the Branch
included cooks Jo-Ann, Judy Lee
and Mary Bradshaw and social
helpers LeeAnn McDonald, Lisa
Glanville and Daisy Wong Schmidt.
President Jo-Ann attended zone
convention in Seaforth on Sunday
afternoon. The normal business of
the zone was conducted and
elections were held. Congratulations
to Comrade Eric Ross of the
Brussels Branch who assumed the
position of Zone Commander of
Zone C1 for the next two years.
