The Citizen World Day of Prayer service held at Knox United The World Day of Prayer service was held at Knox United Church, Belgrave, where the women joined women from around the world in a service written by the women of the Bahamas. The World Day of Prayer services in the Bahamas began 65 years ago and the women were all dressed in white. On Friday, the women of Belgrave wore bright colours and shared their large and small seashells and colourful leis and flowers. Muriel Coultes welcomed everyone and speakers brought prayers from 10 of the islands that make up the Bahamas. Pastor Elly Dow read the scripture, which told of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet. Six more readers continued with prayers from their islands. A video was shown that had been made available to groups. It told the story of how the women of the Bahamas became more active in their politics and schools and everyday life. Six women took part in sharing their prayers for those living in poverty, those victims of domestic violence, refugees, single mothers, those living with HIV/AIDs and those suffering from breast cancer. After each one spoke the group prayed for them and in turn they washed each others’ feet. The women then showed the blessing they had received. The offering was received and will be sent on the WICC for the work of women in Canada and around the world. Lunch of Bahamian macaroni and cheese and Johnny Cakes with maple syrup was served and the fellowship continued. NEWS FROM BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE A single-vehicle snowmobile incident on a Clegg Line property near Jamestown Road resulted in a 20-year-old male from Morris- Turnberry being airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that, on March 8, after 2 p.m., OPP and Huron County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the site of the incident. There, they found the 20-year-old entangled in his machine. OPP say that he was jumping the snowmobile in a farmer’s field and lost control, causing it to roll over. The injured male was transported by EMS to Wingham where he was picked up by the air ambulance. He remains in the hospital with serious injuries. Snowmobiler injured Joan and Neil Vincent greeted worshippers at Knox United Church on Sunday, March 8. Lila Procter welcomed everyone and went over the announcements as printed. Sympathy is extended to Allen and Kim Walker on the passing of Kim’s grandmother. Marie Stewart is home from the hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery. Ken Procter and Doug Walker took up the offering, followed by prayer and dedication by Larry Harper. The congregation gathered in the lower hall to watch a video and presentation by Larry and Barb Harper on their recent trip to El Salvador through Shelter Canada. Their mission there was to help in the building of homes. Their team leaders were Ed and Brenda Stein of Wingham. While there, they noticed that the people there were quite religious, very welcoming and they never complained of not having much and that all the people helped in the building of the homes. The women would do the cleaning, washing, made quilts and clothing, which they sold at the market. The temperature there would be 36°C in the day and would go down to 17°C in the evening. Lila Procter thanked Larry and Barb for a most enjoyable insight on their mission to El Salvador. After prayer by Larry, lunch and fellowship followed. On Sunday, March 15 the children’s chime group will be playing in church. The group is asked to be at church ready to practise by 11 a.m. The sacrament of communion will be celebrated on March 15.
