With many players absent, the teams were mixed to have enough darters. In the end the team of Murray Houston and Peter Lefor won five out of six games and also the team of Ern Lewington and Steve Bowers. With a lot of luck! Pat Gillis was the high lady shot, hitting 98 and Ern Lewington hit 140. Barb Currie was the lucky draw winner again. There were lots of Brussels and Walton area folks out to enjoy the Legends of Country and Rock performance at the Blyth Memorial Hall on Friday evening. I attended with friends Mary Bradshaw and Linda Bird and sat right behind Eric and Vernice and Sheila Prescott. We also saw the Daltons, McLellans, Meiers, Cronins, Lewingtons and Zweps to name a few. It was a wonderful show and it is fantastic to have such great shows so close to home. The six performers impersonated and sang the hits of Sonny and Cher, Buddy Holly, Frankie Valli, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, Barbara Streisand, Britney Spears and many more. Special appearance twice by Elvis Presley thrilled the audience. It was a night of familiar songs for all and was a great evening. ESTC Elliott also outlined the importance of the ESTC to the Blyth economy and how it brings people into the community who shop at village stores, eat at local restaurants and utilize Blyth accommodations. He told those at the meeting about the hundreds of thousands of dollars that could be generated if the centre is able to expand its training capabilities over the next three years. This would require a grant from Huron County, which is currently before the county’s Economic Development Board, and has yet to be approved by Huron County Council. If the centre’s expansion goes as planned, he said, it could result in nearly $3 million of economic spin- off annually, but it all depends on council’s decision on the grant in the coming weeks. “[The ESTC] is a huge economic driver for the northern part of Huron County,” Elliott said. Various business owners spoke out about their experiences with those attending the ESTC, saying that more meals are served and more customers are seen in local stores thanks to the centre. Elliott called for support from Blyth-based businesses for the ESTC in its grant application, saying that it’s crucial that business owners in Blyth show council how important the ESTC is to the local economy.
