They were treated to an interesting and informative trip down memory lane by Crystal Whyte, Helen Lobb and Dorothy Bogie. One often hears the expression at Christmas that Joseph, therefore Jesus, were of the house and lineage of David. Dorothy clarified the genealogy of Abraham through to King David. The ladies present had an opportunity to share some of their own heritage. Canadian heritage moments were enjoyed through a video presentation by Crystal – 50 years of the Canadian flag, Sir John A. McDonald and Confederation, Vimy Ridge, the Stratford Festival, and inspirational Canadian women - Laura Secord, Nellie McClung, Emily Carr and Mona Parsons. The program included a video about Expo 67 - A Place to Stand, an event familiar to the ladies present. Helen Lobb spoke about ‘downtown and community’ which everywhere include historic buildings, landmarks, churches, shops and restaurants familiar to everyone. Londesborough’s past was revisited from its time of being laying out in 1850 by Hagyard. Fast on the heels of a successful ‘apron sewing’ day, ladies were invited to come out on March 4 to make baby blankets. There is no sewing involved. Bring along scissors, cutting boards and wheels and a lunch. These blankets are distributed throughout the community. Snow date is the March 11. The March meeting for the group is Monday, March 16. The meeting will take the form of the World Day of Prayer Service for 2015. The service itself will begin at 7:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at the end of the evening and will feature foods from the Bahamas. The ladies of the Bahamas wrote this year’s service. Other items of business included having the pianos tuned and checked, purchasing new mattresses for the cabin at Camp Menesetung, purchasing a lily for the narthex for Easter and maintaining the Mission and Service Fund allocation at $2100. The Outreach Committee of Londesborough United have learned that shelves at area food banks get empty by this time of the winter. Consequently they have set out donation boxes through the church for the Sundays of March 8, 15 and 22. They encourage you to be generous. More important than the money raised, however, were the smiles created by the warm meal and warmer smiles of the congregation. Here, Courtney Bergsma can barely contain her mid-meal excitement. (Jasmine deBoer photo) Here we are already in the month of March, the wearing of the green month. In celebration of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, everyone at Hullett Central School is encouraged to come to school dressed in green clothing on March 13, the last day of classes before March Break. The Student Advisory Council (SAC) group is giving advance notice of the annual "fun fair" to be held at the Blyth Community Centre on May 1. More details will develop as the weeks go by. The senior volleyball teams competed in the regional tournament at Central Huron Secondary School (CHSS) in Clinton recently and deserve congratulations. The boys team finished the day in first place and the girls brought home second place honours. On March 11, Kindergarten pupils and their families will have a fun afternoon snowshoeing and celebrating the learning ongoing in Kindergarten. Monday, Feb. 23 Hullett held its in-school speeches and story-telling competition as the first stage in the annual Royal Canadian Legion contest. Judged the most proficient in the primary division were Shea Cox, Myrah Caldwell and Connor Dale. The junior finishers were Colby Dale, Ella Sawchuck and Nadia Bingham. Chosen as winners in the intermediate division were Jaden Shortreed, Leah Caldwell and Claire Scrimgeour. Congratulations to all who summoned up the courage to present their story or speech to the whole school. You are all winners for that. The speeches chosen as best in division will compete at the Goderich Legion on Saturday, March 7. May the luck of the Irish be with the Hullett speakers!
