Continued from page 1 the atmosphere of the event. Two other things that will be needed, the group said, will be water and wood chips. Water will be necessary by the truckload, McGavin said, and the group has already started collecting wood chips from local projects in the event that it rains during the match. The event will also make use of local facilities. There will be two banquets; the queen’s banquet and the plowmen’s banquet, both of which will have to be held at a larger recreation facility like the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre or the Seaforth and District Community Centre. Other local facilities like the Walton Community Hall will also be used and potentially the municipality’s public works shed in Winthrop for storage. McGavin also said that signage has been a problem at previous matches. He said he hoped that both Huron East and Huron County would be liberal in its allowances of where organizers can put signs directing visitors to the match. MacLellan said he hoped that since the county had already invested heavily in the match that it would be generous with sign placement. MacLellan told the group to prepare a list of services and benefits they hoped to receive from the municipality, in-kind or not, and send it to municipal staff so Huron East could get started on it. Walton IPM begins to take shape as details emerge Picturing the future The 2017 International Plowing Match in Walton will feature unprecedented community support and the volunteering of a number of properties to play as host, in one way or another, for the historic match, the 100th in history. Here, in a map provided by Huron County GIS mapping and presented to Huron East Council at its Jan. 6 meeting, the site begins to take shape from Blyth Road (County Road 25) in the north to Hullett- McKillop Road in the south.
