There is something wonderfully
endearing about a Christmas Eve
church service. It just seems the
right place to be on the eve of that
most important day when we
celebrate how God broke into our
world and history by sending His
Son Jesus Christ to save us.
Once again this year, families
young and old, gathered together for
the annual tradition of spending
Christmas Eve at Huron Chapel.
The sanctuary was full and one
could sense the awe and hush of the
Holy Night.
As I studied the crowd waiting in
anticipation of what the night and
next day would bring, I was
reminded of the words of that
Christmas carol, “All is calm, all is
bright”. It is indeed a special time
like no other in the year.
One of the things I adore about the
Christmas Eve service are the
children. They are not just
spectators, but are very much
involved in the evening festivities.
The young brother and sister team of
Sam and Amanda McNeil sang, “Go
Tell It On The Mountain” after their
mother, Heidi, had all the kids up on
the stage to hear a special Christmas
story. Cadi Baan sat up on the piano
bench and played, “O Come All Ye
Faithful” for the congregation.
Sisters, Briella, Naomi and Sophia
Campbell were excited to share their
favorite song, “Little Drummer Boy”
with those in attendance. Little
Sophia, who is just beginning to talk
in broken sentences, sparkled as she
added her crucial part to the song
singing, “pa rum pum pum pum.”
The evening ended with the house
lights were turned off as each
person lit a candle throughout the
sanctuary. As candle light filled the
room we sang together, “O
Holy Night”. It was a wonderful
evening.
I was excited to recently receive
on loan from Karen Webster a 1954
Auburn calendar from Knox United
Church. As I scanned through the
first couple of weeks in the 61-year-
old calendar, I notice a few surnames
we still recognized today. On Jan. 9
Mrs. Albert Campbell turned 65.
Rev. H.J. Snell would have
celebrated a birthday on Jan. 14.

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
farmer and wind turbine opponent
Shawn Drennan says his next steps
are uncertain after his long-running
appeal of a proposed wind turbine
project was dismissed late last
month.
The dismissal was announced on
Dec. 29. The appeal dealt with the
140-turbine project proposed by K2
Wind, but also two other projects, a
92-turbine project owned by Armow
Wind and a 15-turbine
project owned by St. Columban
Energy.
In an interview, Drennan said he
would wait through the holidays
before commenting any further, but
that he hoped to read the decision in
detail before deciding how to next
proceed. He also hoped to consult
with his lawyer, noted human rights
lawyer Julian Falconer, before
taking his next step.
Michael Sheehan, a spokesperson
for K2 Wind, says he hoped the late-
December decision would finally
put an end to the challenges facing
the project.
With about half of the project’s
140 turbines now erected, he said he
hoped commercial operation of the
project would begin in mid-2015.
