Locals honoured at Huron County 4-H awards

Adeline Treble for the highest, and,
due to a tie, Justin Beuermann and
Isaac VanSoest.
The Joan Van Slightenhorst Award
of Merit was awarded to both Clay
Siertsema and Ward Verschaeve.
Verschaeve also received the Huron
Goat Club Award for Reserve
Showperson at the Seaforth Fair.
Evy Verschaeve received the Goat
Owners Award for the top novice
member.
The Paul Klopp Award, presented
to the top goat showperson, was
presented to Myah Vingerhoeds who
also received the Huron Goat Club
Award for champion goat at the
Seaforth Fair.
The Huron Goat Club Award for
reserve goat at the Seaforth Fair was
presented to Josiah Steckle.
The Hensall District Co-op Award,
given to the high novice judge in the
judging competition, was awarded to
Emily Bieman.
The Hill and Hill Farms Limited
Award, given to the high junior
judge, was presented to Myah
Vingerhoeds.
Hannah Krebs received the
Judging Competition Award for the
high intermediate judge in the
judging competition.
Laura Higgins received the Hill
and Hill Farms Limited Award for
the high senior judge in the judging
competition as well as the Canadian
Imperial Bank of Commerce Award
for high overall judge in the judging
competition.
The Judging Competition Team
Award, presented to the winning
team in the judging competition, was
presented to Emily Bieman, Dallas
Coultes, Ashley Higgins and Laura
Higgins.
Recipients of the Libro Project
Book Awards for the novice category
were, in order of placing: Gayle
McIlhargey, Ben Speer and Emily
Bieman. Junior recipients were
Matthew Recoskie, Amanda
Morrison and Hayden Flood.
Intermediate recipients were Taylor
Kinsman, Janette Plaetzer and a tie
between Tyler Murray and Melissa
MacIntyre for third place. Senior
winners were Reba Jefferson and
Brad MacIntyre.
The Outstanding Member Awards
were presented to Charlene
Schramm for Grey Township, Rylin
Wormington for Howick, Sarah
Hendriks for Hensall and Kate
Higgins for Wawanosh.
The 4-H members who were
recognized for best living up to the
4-H motto of “learn to do by doing”
were Hillary Schramm of Grey
Township, Kayla Werkema of
Hensall, Emma Douglas of Howick
and Gayle McIlhargey of
Wawanosh.
Reba Jefferson received the
Graduating Life Skill Member
Award.
The Old Mill Award, for the
highest scoring member of the 4-H
Sheep Club was presented to
Graham Falconer. Graham also
received the Doug Kennedy Award
for Reserve Champion Showperson
at the Seaforth Fair.
Matthew Recoskie received the
Lucknow Co-op Award for being the
highest novice member.
The Green’s Meat Market Award,
presented for champion market lamb
at the Seaforth Fair, was presented to
Garet Smuck.
The Shillalah Farm Award, for
champion ewe lamb at the Seaforth
Fair, was presented to Makena
McEwan who also received the Lisa
Thompson Award for being the
Champion 4-H sheep showperson at
the Seaforth Fair.
The North Sheep Leaders Award,
presented to a 4-H Sheep member
who made outstanding contributions
to their club, was presented to Seth
Ashwin.
Mitchell McGregor received the
South Huron Sheep Leaders Award
for Outstanding Effort.
The Lucknow Sheep Leaders
Award for Outstanding Effort and
Contribution to a 4-H Club was
presented to Owen Dalton.
Garet Smuck received the
Canadian Co-operative Wool
Growers Award for champion 4-H
fleece at the Seaforth Fair.
The Steve Corbett Award for the
highest score in a Sodbusters Club
went to Chris Baker.
Sjoerd-Jan DeBoer received the
McGavin Farm Equipment Award
for earning the highest points among
first year Sodbuster members.
The Townsend Tire Award,
presented to the youngest member of
a Sodbuster Club, was presented to
Darcy Fear.
The Sodbusters Leaders’ Awards
for top land plowed at Achievement
Day by a competitive plow was
presented to Scott Baan who also
received the Ross Gordon Award for
Best Crown at Junior Day and the
TD Canada Trust Award for top 4-H
Plowperson.
Shawn Steeper received the
Sodbuster Leaders’ Award for top
land plowed at Achievement Day by
a non-competitive plow.
The Agvise Award for the
Sodbuster member with the highest
points at the International Plowing
Match was presented to Lucas
Townsend, who was also the
recipient of the Bill Leeming Award
for the best finish on Junior Day.
The Huron County Pork
Producers’ Association Award, given
to the highest scoring 4-H Swine
Club member, was presented to
Darcy Fear.
Anna Fear was presented the
Bergsma Award for champion 4-H
gilt.
The John Watson Award for
Champion 4-H market pig was
presented to Dean Ryan.
Kyrstin Krainz received the
ScotiaBank Award for champion
swine showperson at the Seaforth
Fair.
Shawn Ryan received the Huron
County Pork Producers’ Award for
reserve champion swine showperson
at the Seaforth Fair.
The Cook’s Division of Parrish &
Heimbecker Ltd. Trophy, which is
presented to the top 4-H club white

so much to improve their community.

Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of the Blyth and area
and Brussels and area communities to receive an award for contribution to the
community. If you know someone you think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot

Great job
Those involved with Huron County 4-H were feeling
generous last month, handing out a number of awards at
their annual year-end awards night, which was held in
Seaforth. In the picture on the left, Cole MacPherson, left,
received the Don Pullen Award from Pullen himself. The
award is presented annually to the member with the highest
points in the year. In the picture on the right, Florence Pullen, left,
was recognized for her 35 years of volunteering with the
organization. Presenting her with a token of appreciation is Andy
