Wow, it doesn’t seem that long ago that we were worrying about the effects of 2000, the start of the new millennium. Remember all the fussing about that occasion. Looking back, it is recalled as another good example of excess worrying about the unknown. Most times, we know full well there is not much we can do about many things, but still we fuss. So as we start a new year – pick your worries – can you do anything about your concern, if yes – do it, if not – let it go. May peace find you in 2015. The carol sheets are tucked away, the costumes all folded up and, for some, the tree is down and gone. Now your memories need to get fixed, so that the Christmas season of 2015 is part of your good memories. The parties are over. The gatherings have happened. Santa has been and gone and Elf is back in the North for another 329 days, so our normals can get settled in. There’s something very peaceful about the 12 days of Christmas and the days of January. The frantic mood has passed, the pressure is off and all is well with the world. It’s time to just sit, time to have tea by the tree and fully enjoy all that goes with it. For me these quiet days are for thinking and sorting. I’m a paper saver and usually it’s good stuff I save, but enough already. So last week I took on the filing cabinet that holds treasures unseen for decades. Now this is a job that requires time, lots of time for you just can’t quickly toss son Chris’ Grade 3 report card, or a picture of Pat Langlois driving a beater in a parade for the new Optimist Club or skating people and thunder mug races at the Lions Polar Days or the new fire truck or Peggie Cudmore’s 90th birthday party or the Ark, Cadets, Guides and Brownies, home renovations and bank statements. So I’ve being doing a review and life is good and our recycling bin may hit the top this week. Pictures of the Women’s Institute in action also passed through my hands reminding me to tell you to save Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m. to join them at the Library for a tour and talk by Kim Yuzwa, our librarian. The Majestic WI would be pleased to be your host as you take a look at the nice new community room and the services in the library. So mark it down for next week. Enjoy the peace of January. The Friday night suppers will return on Friday with roast beef on the menu. The Branch hosted a zone information meeting on Sunday afternoon organized by Zone Commander Larry Bailey and Deputy-Zone Commander Eric Ross. The meeting was held concerning the eight branches present reviewing and completing the new Branch regulation forms. They are to be completed and submitted by the end of March to Provincial Command. Many of the Branches have had a few problems with wording and an expert from another zone attended to advise all. Comrade Lynda Hagedorn from the Hespeler Branch was of great help to all. The group enjoyed a social time following the meeting. President Jo-Ann McDonald and Comrade Eric Ross conducted the act of initiation of four new members of Branch 218. Gathering to be initiated were Wayne Smith, Ryan Shaw, Mark Campbell and Jamie Mitchell. The ceremony was held prior to the zone information meeting.
