The children areal' the family
of Mr. and Mrs. James E.Cronin
Ire.R.1, Dublin, and can be seen
, daily now that the holidays are
here, touring their McKillop
Township farin and neighboring
fields. .
The cutter, an exact miniature
replica of an old-timecutter, was
constructed by the Cronin child-
ren's uncle, Frank Crpnin. '
Frank got the idea for the
cutter from an old,,pOst card and
recalled the balance of the design
from memory.
Tammy, the children's pony,
wears a 100-old jingle bell,which
was passed down to the present
Cronin generation by Jim and
Frank's grandfather.
The bell is only one of a set.

lasign on the other.
James Cronin says the family
nice had a set of chime bells for
107'ses but "we just let a lot of
:hese things disappear" with the
horse and buggy age.
Ile still has a few single bells
but 'riot enough, he says, to be-
conSidered a collection. The best
of the old, horse bells have van-
ished.

A teacher retirement policy
which will set retirement age for
separate school teachers in Perth
and Huron Counties at 65 years
was agreed on at a meeting of the
Perth Huron Separate School
Board Friday.,
Since some teachers pre-
' sently employed are over 6'')
years of age, the board set up
a sliding scale which will
put° retirement age in 1970 at 68
years, in 1971 at 66 years, and in•
1973 at 65 years.
The board also voted to per-
mit dental service in Huron
County separate schools which
will supply children with fluor=
ide treatment. The procedure is
already being followed in Perth
County schools.
-Paul Franck. business admin-
istrator of the board said ren-
ovation of the lib.'ary at St.
Boldface separate' school in
Zurich is progressing and the
official opening of the addition
of St. Mary's separate,oschool
in Goderich will be held in
February.
He also repc•rterl that the On-
tario Education Capital Aid Corp.
will not be able to coiisider the
application for debentbre made
by the board in August until the
spring of 1970. The reason for
the delay is an it creasing number
of applications causing a drain
on 'funds.
The Perth Huron separate,
school bpard expects to send .wo
trustees to attend the Ontario.

ference in .Ottawa, Jan. 8, 9,

who the representatives will be.
'Treasured Today
In the preparation of illu-
minated manuscripts, a mas-
ter artist often set the style
for copyists and assistants to
follow, since' even the deco-
ration of an initial letter
could be a major project.
A single letter might occu-
py an entire page, and a ,
complete scene or,miniature
painting might be contained ,
within the' boundaries of, for
instance, an initial "C" or
Some manuscripts, in fact, '
represent the work not only
of more than one artist but
of more than„one generation
of artists.
Today, illumfnated manu-
scripts are treasures of li-
braries and museums, and
rightly so, for throughout a
thousand' years of Christian"
history, the art of Illumina-
tion brought an extra dimen—
sion' of beauty to manu-
scripts that are, in them-
selves, precious works of art.
