Payment of the per pupil re-
gistration fee in the Huron:-Perth
ConferenCe for secondary school
interschool competition will be
assumed in future by Huron Coun-
ty Board of Education and the
amount will be pro-rated to the
physical education budget of
each school, The Board decided
at last week's Meeting in Cen-
tral Huron Secondary School,
Clinton.
„D.J. Cochrane, director of
education, reported that total
cost to the Board would be
$672. 53 calculated as follows:
Central Huron SS, Clinton $150.
Goderich Distritt 9_$126. 00;
F. E. Madill SoSy-Wingharn
$1'14. 83;'SFaforth District HS
$77. 70; South Huron DHS, Exeter,
$144". 0.0, total $672. 53.
He explained that each sec-
ondary school has been required
to pay into the Huron-Perth Ath-
letic Conference, a membership
fee calculated on the basis of
15 cents per pupil for the first
one thousand pupils and 71 cents
per pupil in excess of one thou7
sand. In th'e past this fee had been
paid by the Boards.
He stated further that Student
Council funds have been pretty
well used up in the payment of
referees' fees, as much as $30,
to $35. to bring a referee from
London and pay his mileage. He
pointed out that this money will
be used to purchase prizes, and
trophies.
John Henderson, Seaforth,
asked why Students could not use
their own funds, such as those
raised by Student Councils,. He
thought the spectators should pay
more to witness games if more
money was needed to pay the ref-
erees,

Township, interjected a question
regarding money "raised" by
walkathons for student council
purposes such as to reduce the
deficit of Central Huron Second-
ary School's Student Council.
"Why not raise money by doing
something else that might be more
constructive?" he suggested. " Walk-
athons are becoming quite a rack-
et. "
Board members did not disagree
with him.
