DEAR DORIS - Next month
I will be bridesmaid for my
cousin, arid I'm scared to
death, I am 19, and I don't
know anything about sex or
how to act in the presence of
men. I mentioned sex once
and my parents told me to shut
up.
Just even thinking about sex
or love makes me turn red. Our
minister wanted to have a sex
education program for teen-
agers, but more parents object-
ed than were in favor.
NEVER HAD A DATE
DEAR NEVER - You know
what? They won't talk to you
about sex because they're
scared stiff of the subject them-
selves! But you can catch up.
The books about it, on the list
I am sending you, are to be
found in the library.
As you read them, keep in
mind that sex combined with_
true love is a beautiful and
natural thing - not something
':dirty" or, on the other hand,
to be indulged in lightly.
And in spite of.evidence to
the contrary, don't get the no-
don that mere physical contact
is what dating is all . about.
Boys and men are people, • ap-
proximately half of the human'
race. They have personalities
and ideas, and make excellent
comrades.
DEAR DORIS - My s o n
bought a home and most of my
family . have been over to see it.
He never makes a point of
inviting anyone; feels 'that if
people are interested, they
will just call and say the y
Woisrdlike -to come-Over.- -
He says that if he extends an
invitation, people might think
he wants gifts for his new
home. But here's the rub;, my
own brother has not seen his
home, as he, on his part, thinks
my son should invite him and
that otherwise it is not proper
for him to go.
FAMILY ETIQUETTE
DEAR FAMILY -. Shades
of Mrs. Grundy! Do family
members have to stand on cer-
emony that mpch?
Proper etiquette is, indeed,
to extend an .invitation. This
flatters a pers'on that he is
wanted I And any self-conscious
notion that he might be expect-
ed to bring a gift is just out of
the question.
But there should be leeway
both ways.
DEAR DORIS - I got en-
gaged last week. My aunt and-
uncle (that I live with) like
him, but don't approve of my
marrying someone not of my k,
religion. They said my grand-
mother- would turn over in her
grave if she knew about it.
I think the world of my un-
cle and aunt. But my uncle
said if I marry anybody of this
Other religion, he won't come
to the wedding.
How can I convince him that
I am growing up and can make
my own decisions, without
hurting them? I never thought
people could be so stubborn
and prejudiced about loving
Gbd.
TO HAVE AND
TO HOLD,
DEAR TO HAVE - ° Preju-
dice dies hard. Mature people
know that religious difference
can rise up like a wall between
husbands and wives. Yet you
do have a right to decide it
yourself.
Have you discussed your be-
liefs and your fiance's, with
your clergyman andliis? If you.
have, and are really sure of
yourself, tell them what you
Antend._and_that even if they
don't feel they can be there for
the ceremony, you will keep on
loving them.

Crossbreeding -
Is Popular„
Crossbreeding pigs for market
is becoming more popular with
pig producers.
"Several new breeds and
strains of pigs• have appeared,"
reports J. G. Norrish, Swine spec-
ialist with the Ontario Depart-
ment of Agriculture and Food,
For the producer who is in
doubt as to what cross to make,
Mr. Norrish suggests several fac- -
tors which are important in a
crossing program. Pigs intended
for the cross must be readily '
available and they must have
good performance behind them.
"A breed or strain of pigs
which is available in good num-
bers stands a good chance of
turning out Superiorkndividuals
simply because of the greater
number from which to select the
better performing animals," ex-
plains Mr. Norrish. "If a breed
of Nis is small in number, its
chance of producing outstand-
ing individuals is more remote, "
He advises that in making a
cross, the female side should
consist of Yorkshire-Lands-ace
crossbred sow's. The litter size,
milking, ‘ and mothering ability
of each of these breeds exceeds
that of other breeds. As a result
large litters of strong pigs with
a high rate of survival are pro-
duced.
The male side should con-
sist of boars from the meat •
breeds. preferably Hampshire,
because there are more [-tamp-.
shires available at present than
boars from other meat breeds.
Good crossbred boars from meat
strains can be used as an altern-
ative to the Hampshire boars,
"This method of breeding brings
out the Strong 'combining abil-
ity' of these thee breeds," says
Norriih.
