Elliott, R R.3, Clinton, chairman' of the Elementary School Teachers' Negotiating Committee, informed the press following last week's Mud me- eting in Central Huron Second- ary School, Clinton. "It would he out of order to make a statement unless 48 hours' notice had been given the teachers, " he said. T he committer. had met the teach- ers' committee only the night The J. The same attitude and the same result were not forthcom- ing from D J. Murphy, Goderich, chairman of the Board's iom- mittee negotiating wi i*hhe 264 secondary school teachers. "We are not in a position to make a statement tonight," he stated bluntly, giving no indi 2 cation when the committee would be in a position to report to the Board. Apparently, negotiations are still proceeding with the second- ary school teachers, John G. Lavis, Clinton, chair- man of the Board, told the press that many county Boards of Ed- ucation in Ontario have not yet reached 'salary agreements, and that such a situation had not been unusual prior to the inaug- uratfon of county school boards, Agreements often had been ar- rived at after the opening o f school, he„pointed out. The matter of negotiations with the two teachers' commit- tees came.up when the Board was considering a report of the salary committee for nun-teach- ing employees of the board, and die press requested an explanat- ion for the apparent delay. - The Board, at last week's meeting, confirmed items pas- sed in a pre\,ions committee of the whole: (1) 'Mat Mrs. I'dna Bell of Sea forth Public School, he paid in category 5 of the proprised• salary schedule; (2) That resig- nation of Miss Joan Armitage froM Staff of Wingham School, he accepted ; (:r) That bliss Jo- Ann AldWinkle, Harry Brooks and bits.
