Suggest Precautions Against
"Bank Inspector Frauds"
Discussing a recturence of
"Bank Inspector Frauds" this
year, Seaforth Police Chief
Gordon Hulley emphasized that
a few simple precautions could
save many area citizens from
being victimized.
in past years, thousands of
dollars have been taken from
trusting and Unsuspecting elder -
1.y persons throughout Ontario by
a scheme commonly called
"Bank Inspector Frauds". In-
vestigations have indicated that
a great number of criminals ,
practice several variations of
this scheme. While there have
been some arrests, prosec ution
is difficult because the "' voice
on the telephone" ca.nno be
identified, and the "pic k-up
man" appears only for i 1 few
moments at the elderl) i person's
door.
Any time during inking
hours of a weekday, ' the tele-
phone may ring in ass average
middle-class home - usually
that of an elderly w idow. The
male c,Aler,, in a v ery business-
like and authorita' rive manner,
will identify hims elf as either
a "bank official" or a member
of the Police Del aartment, pre-
sently investigat ing a dishonest
bank employee suspected o f
tampering with . the customer's
account. The caller will then,
in a persuasiv e tone, obtain
from the vict im information
concerning t he amount of mon-
ey on depos it in her account.
He will the n request that she go

fun while she is learning to be
a better citizen.
• Through the life of a Brownie,

her account. A.s part of the
scheme, the victim is advised
that in making; this withdrawal,
she Kill assist in trapping the
dishonest employee; she will
also be advised not to tell any-
one. The caller may offer to
pick her up, send a taxi, meet
her at a pre-determined rendez-
vous, or imply that she may
have received counterfeit mom
ey in a recent withdrawal and
he will take and examine it for
her. If she expresses doubt that
the caller is a police officer or
a bank official, he will tell her
to hang up and call back, how-
ever, he will keep her line open
by not 'nanging up and when
she dials, he will answer ac-
cordingly.
Chief Hulley said that BANK
INSPECTORS OR POLICE OFFIC-
ERS DO NOT UNDER ANY CIR-
CUMSTANCES ASK PERSONS
TO WITHDRAW MONEY FROM
THE DANK. ANY PERSON AP-
PROACHED UNDER THESE OR
SIMILAR CONDITIONS, SHOULD

As an added precaution,

RELATIVES AND FRIENDS OF
ELDERLY PEOPLE SHOULD IM-

he said.
A doctor had just hired a new
secretary. Having trouble with
the doctor's notes on an emerg-
ency case which read, "Shot in

Finally, she thought she had
figured it out and proceeded to

Check the list. Datsun 1000 has everything -- and '
then some. It runs like a sports car, rides like a big
car, sips gas like a cigarette lighter and wears like
a' tank.
You can get 100,000 miles between major overhauls,
12,000 between grease jobs, 84 mph. and up to
40 mites to the gallon, The whole neat little package
moves out like a jackrabbit, corners on rail's and
stops on a nickel. And all this goodness comes in a
choice of two or four doors, with room for four
big people or five skinny. ones.
26 ft, turning circle
With Datsun reliability, you won't see the inside of
many service departments, but there are nearly
200, coast-to-coast. With over one million dollars'
worth of parts.
The only thing Datsun 1000 needs is someone to
love it, Someone like you.
Datsun 1000. There are plenty of cars in its price
range. But nothing in its class.
Datsun 1000 is called the more-for-your-money car.,
And now you know why.
