Dear Constable:
My uncle who is 78, just had
his driver's licence renewed and
it is Only good for two years. I
thought that all licences were
renewed for three years. Is there
a mistake, and should I write
the Department of:Transport?
ANSWER:
You are correct in thinking
that licences are renewed for a
period of three years from the
expiry date shown on such lic-
ence, but where a person has
attained the age of 78 years,
but not the age of 79 years, his
driver's licence may be renewed
for a period of two years only
from his 78th birthday; and when
a person has attained the age..of
79 years or more, his drivers
licence may be renewed for a
period of one year only from the
dale of his last birthday. That
is what is stated in the regulat
ions, and please note in both ,
cases there are the words "may'
be". We cannot forget that
driving is a privilege. By our
actions we can keep or lose our
