On Wednesday evening about
40 relatives and friends gathered
for a surprise celebration at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. George
Young, 168 Queen St. , Stratford
on the occasion of their 40th
Wedding Anniversary.
The evening was spent play-
ing progressive euchre. The
winners were Mrs. Harold Diegel,
Mr. A. Schans, Mrs. A. Schans
and Wm. Diegel,
A short address was given by
Russell Sholdice and the present-
ation of a ruby coloured crystal
candy dish, bouquet of recrand
white carnations and money was
made by the couples great niece,
Miss Diane Oldfield of Seaforth.
Diane also favoured the guests
with several dancing pumhers.

A Walkathon was held Sat-
urday from Brodhagen to Dublin,
east to Mitchell, north to Born-
holm and west CO Brodhagen, a
total of twenty miles. Approx-
imately 105 participated in the
event, raising $2500. towards
new ball park lights.
Darrell Wolfe, 12, grandson
of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Wolfe,
ran all the way and was first one
back. He set out from the com-
munity Centre at 5:15 a. m. A
friend, Billy Scherbarth, set out
with him but only lasted a Able.
Nearly four hours and five rest
stops later, Darrell returned.
Glen Dolmage, 16, was the
fastest though, shaved 10 min-
utes off Darrell's time raising
an extra $25.
The walkers aged from six
to 66 and nearly 90 per cent
finished the full 20 miles. The,
last returned about 8 p. m. The -
youngest walker was Perry Ben-
newies, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Willard Bennewies and the old-
est was Robert French.
The wives of Chamber of
Commerce members donated a
free lunch and supper to the
walkers.
The money raised will com-
plete the cost of the floodlights,
the remainder being supplied by
township and provincial grants.
