At the request of the Board's
solicitor, Huron County Board of
Education went into-committee
of the whole Monday evening in
Central Huron Secondary School,
Clinton, to discuss what Boar d
Chairman, John B. Lavis, Clin-
ton, termed "a private matter".
Later, in session, the Board
approved forwarding a letter,
as outlined by the solicitor,
Elmer D. Bell, Q. C. , Exeter,
to Lyle Pinkney, 263 Catherine
Street, Goderich, in connection
with a complaint made by him .
concerning water lying on his
property adjacent to Goderich
District Collegiate Institute
playground.
Mr. Lavis reported that the
Board's solicitor has recommend-
ed that it was a matter to be
decided by Mr. Pinkney and the
Town of Goderich and that they
should be so advised.
One of the items on the
agenda for the Board meeting
was in the form of a question:
"Is there need for a school site
in a new subdivision on Lot 39,
Maitland Concession, Goderich
Township?"
J. W. Colter, schools su-
perintendent, reported that the
site was on the edge of town,
approximately across from the
W. A. Sheaffer Pen property. He
recommended that no school
site be reserved in this subdivi-
sion; it comprises only twelve
lots, one of which'is already
occupied.
The. Board approved Mr.
Coulter's negative recommend-
ation. ('
FolloWing decision at the
last meeting of the Board to
lease the Nurses' Residence,
Clinton, for two years at $2500,
per year, plus the cost of alter-
ations, the Board Monday even•
ing voted to engage Cale Dou-
cette Construction Limited,
Clinton, to do the necessary
alterations tinder the supervis-
ion of Education Director, D.J.
Cochrane. He had tendered
before.
Although no definite ceil-
ing was placed on the cost, a
figure of approximately $3000,
was' generally agreed upon by
the Board, not including the
cost of furnishings and equip-
ment, much of which will be
brought from other school of-
fices in the County,
It took all of twenty min-
utes' discussion to decide when
the Board should hold its meet-
ings in the summer months. The
board finally fixed the second
Mondays in July and August,
and other meetings at the call
of the chair, as the dates of
,meeting, all to be held in the
Board Room of CHSS, Clinton.
