Former Resident
Receives Award
-A special variety night to be
presented Friday, /v14y 1.6 and
again. Sunday night, May 18 at
St. Patrick's Parish Hall, Dublin
. by a cast of 50 pupils of the
. Dublin Continuation School will
mark the "Swan Song" of one of
the last continuation schools in
the province. After 55 years,
the Roman Catholic Public Scho-
ol will pass out of existence this
• summer,
The Perth County board of
education last week decided it
was not economical to continue
'to operate the school in Dublin.
The board was told the scho-
ol, with 51 pupils,, is a public
school covering Grades 9 to 12
and receives the usual provinc-
ial grapts.
However, to all intents and
purposes, the school has been
administered by the Dublin
separate school board since the
county ceased to appoint re-
presentatives to the, Dublin pub-
lic school board.
At one -time, Children of all
•religious faiths attended the sch-
ool, hut for some years, -students
have all been Roman Catholics,
Sister Anne, the school prin-
cipal said the pupils would at-
tend Seaforth District High Scho-
ol or Mitchell High School.
Miss Lydia Jordison, Toronto
with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frie-
Dr. Joseph W. Evans,tortner-
ly of Dublin, who is an Assoc-
iate Professpr of Philosophy and
Director of the Jacques Marit-
ain Centre at the University of
Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind-
iana, was chosen by a faculty-
student committee as the first
recipient of the Charles E. She-
edy Award for Excellence in
Teaching.
Dr. Evans received his early
education at the Dublin Separ-
ate and Continuation School and
was awarded-his M, A. from the.
University of Windsor(Assumpt-
ion College) in 1947 and his
Doctorate of Philosophy from the
University of Notre Dame in
1951...
Monday evening, May 5th,
the C..W. L. held its first meet-
ing of the 1969-70 season in the
parish hall.
Tt-ie, president, Miss Joan
Schoonderwoerd, presided.
Plans for serving coffee and
doughnuts to the Adult Confir-
mation Class, their sponsors and
friends were discussed.
The program for the season
was drawn up.
Graduation dinner for the
class of '69 for the Dublin Con-
