-A, You may take them off and
put them back on providing you
do not put them on. after the
30th day of April. The Highway

30th day of April and the 1st
day of October, in any year."
Dear Constable:
I have noticed in our area a
bus is transporting children to
and from school and it is not
painted the usual yellow and
black. Is this legal?
A. It would depend if this
bus was for the purpose as laid
clown in the Ontario Regulat,
ions which. state, "Every motor
vehicle operated, '
. (a) by a school board for the
transportation of children to or
from school; or ,

However; they Must have on
the vehicle the words "School

seating capacity of ten or more
and they are 'also required by
law to have the signal lights
front and rear, that are capable

of red light.

Transport requesting that he at-

he has lost nine (9) points
and that we aren't going
to attend the interview, and that,
he paid for his licence and he
isn't going to give, jf,jip. What
could happen to him if he does-
n't show up for the interview?
A. First, I would say that he
accumulated them. Secondly, the
possession of a driver's licence
is a privilege, not a right. This
privilege may be withdrawn at
any time for failure to observe
the rules of safe driving. And
to answer your question what
could happen to him if he does-
n't attend the interview, the
Highway Traffic Act states,
"Where a person 'fails to at-
tend for an interview as requir-
ed by Section -9, the Minister
may, after giving notice, sus-
pend the driver's licence of
such person?'
Dear Constable:
The other day I was driving
in a city And I came up .to a red
light, so I stopped, but there
was a policeman in the centre
of the intersection waving me
on. Should I obey the light or,
the policeman?
A. The Highway Traffic Act
states in Section 62 (a) that,
"Where a constable or other
police officer considers it rea-
sonablely necessary,.
(a) to ensure orderly move-
ment of traffic; or
(b) to prevent injury or dam-
age or persons or property; or
(c) to permit proper action
in an emergency,
he may direct according to his
discretion, notwithstanding the
_provisions of this Part, and
every person shall obey his dir-
ections."
Dear Constable:
My wife and I are opening up
a snack bar and are planning on,
selling cigarettes. An old-friend
told us it ,is against the .law to
sell cigarettes to persons under
16 years of age, whether they
have a note or not. Is this _true?
A. Yes, it is. Under the Tob-
acco Restraint Act it states,
"Every one is guilty of an of-
fence and liable on summary
conviction in the case of a first
offence, to a penalty not exceed-
ing $10.007 ,and in the case of a
second offence, to a penality not
exceeding $25.00 and in the case
of a third offence or subsequent
offence, to a penality not exceed-
ing $100.00, who, directly or in-
directly, sells or gives or furn-
ishes to such person, tobacco in
any form other than cigarettes,
which tobacco he knows or has
reason to believe is for 'the use
of that person."

Dear Constable:
I have just, purchased .a set
of new tires and I have noticed
that on the side of • -the tires
there is a V1 marked on them.
What does this mean'
A. This is something that is
required on tires -by law, under

Tire Standards and Speciftcat- ... ions. The regulation states,
"Where a tire conforms with
the requirements of , this Re-
gulation; the tire shall be per-
manently identified on one side-
wall at a location that will not
be obstructed by the rim when
the tire is inflated on the rim
and the idedtification shall not
be removed in..a retreading or
recapping process.
(2) The identification's or dis-
tributor's name or trademark;
(b) the brand name of the tire;
(c) the size of the tire; and
(d) the designation "V-1" in
accordance with the dimension-
al Specifications set- out in the
Schedule 2.
(3) The sidewalk- that does
not bear -the identification re-
nuired by subsection 1 shall be
marked with at 'least the desig-
nation "V-1" in the manner re-
quired by clause (d) of subsect-
ion 2 and at 'a location that will
not be obstructed by the rim
when the tire is inflated on the
rim, and the designation shall
not be removed in a retreading
or recapping process."
