The Highway Traffic . Act states, "No person shall operate a motor ,vehicle or trailer, equipped with studded tires on a highway between the 30th day of April and the 1st day of October, in any year." Dear Constable: I have noticed in our area a bus is transporting children to and from school and it is not painted the usual yellow and black. Is this legal? A. It would depend if this bus was for the purpose as laid clown in the Ontario Regulat, ions which. state, "Every motor vehicle operated, ' . (a) by a school board for the transportation of children to or from school; or , ' (b) • mnder contract with •a school. board solely `for. the transportation of children to or froin school, shall be painted chrome yellow with black trim. What could happen to him if he does- n't show up for the interview? A. First, I would say that he accumulated them. Secondly, the possession of a driver's licence is a privilege, not a right. This privilege may be withdrawn at any time for failure to observe the rules of safe driving. And to answer your question what could happen to him if he does- n't attend the interview, the Highway Traffic Act states, "Where a person 'fails to at- tend for an interview as requir- ed by Section -9, the Minister may, after giving notice, sus- pend the driver's licence of such person?' Dear Constable: The other day I was driving in a city And I came up .to a red light, so I stopped, but there was a policeman in the centre of the intersection waving me on. Should I obey the light or, the policeman? A. The Highway Traffic Act states in Section 62 (a) that, "Where a constable or other police officer considers it rea- sonablely necessary,. (a) to ensure orderly move- ment of traffic; or (b) to prevent injury or dam- age or persons or property; or (c) to permit proper action in an emergency, he may direct according to his discretion, notwithstanding the _provisions of this Part, and every person shall obey his dir- ections." Dear Constable: My wife and I are opening up a snack bar and are planning on, selling cigarettes. An old-friend told us it ,is against the .law to sell cigarettes to persons under 16 years of age, whether they have a note or not. Is this _true? A. Yes, it is. Under the Tob- acco Restraint Act it states, "Every one is guilty of an of- fence and liable on summary conviction in the case of a first offence, to a penalty not exceed- ing $10.007 ,and in the case of a second offence, to a penality not exceeding $25.00 and in the case of a third offence or subsequent offence, to a penality not exceed- ing $100.00, who, directly or in- directly, sells or gives or furn- ishes to such person, tobacco in any form other than cigarettes, which tobacco he knows or has reason to believe is for 'the use of that person."
