This was the case last week as Santa is being blamed for the caption which appeared under this picture and which indicated incorrectly that Santa's friend was Allyson Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Scott, Seaforth. The information was supplied by one of Santa's helpers who usually is most reliable. To set the record straight Santa's guest at the Legion Christmas Party was Margaret Ann Nolan, the three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nolan of R.R. 2, Dublin. Scanning the Weeklies _By Lee Hee In scanning the Mitchell Advocate we note that Mr. and Mrs. George Eickmeyer, observed their golden wedding anniver- sary. Mrs. Cliff Kemp was presented with a silver tea service upon her retirement as house mother for thirteen years at Stratford General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Kemp is returning to the village of Fullarton where she will take up residence. The newly-elected officers of the Mitchell and district Pigeon Club are Ron Rowland, Dublin as president; Jim. Harloff, Milverton as secretary. After spending 50 years in the produce business in Zurich, Leroy O'Brien, according to the Zurich Citizens News, is retiring at the end of the year. Mr. O'Brien has been active in the community and for many years served as a member of the police trustee board, prior to its incorpor- ation, a past president of Zurich. Lions Club and is a charter member of the organization. In the news of Auburn appearing in the Blyth Standard we note that Mr. and Mrs. William Straughn marked their 59th wed- ding anniversary. From the St. Marys Journal-Argus we note that the newly formed Snowmobile Club has decided on a name, the "Snowbirds". The club has now enrolled about 40 members and plans a rally for early in January. Mr. Arthur Johnson was honored recently by his family on the occasion of his 88th birthday. It was "McGuffin Night" at Mt. Olivet Lodge, Thorndale, when Ross McGuffin was Installed as Master of the Lodge by his father, Ivan McGuffin, assisted by two uncles, The three senior members of the family are all Past Masters in the Masonic Lodge and the combined years of member- ship in the order by the four McGuffins reaches a total of 66. According to the Goderich Signal Star, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital has received full accreditation by the Canadian Council on Hospital accredit- ation, hospital board chairman Jim Britnell announced this week. At this time due to so many Christmas concerts etc. in the weeklies this column is a little short again. Mrs. Keys opened the meet- ing with a poem entitled "What Is Christmas". Members observed a minutes silence in memory of Mrs. Hugh Mc- Laughlin and then repeated the Lord's prayer. Twenty members answered the roll call with a Christmas quotation or favourite hymn. Two guests were present. Mrs. Sam McClure gave the' treasurer's report. Members reported 42 sick calls made in the past month. Members were reminded to save used stamps and Christmas cards. The 1970 officers presented their annual reports and then Mrs. Robt. McMillan read the slate of officers for 1971. Mrs. Keys opened the wor- ship service with a poem followed by reading Luke 2 vs. 8 - 20 as Mrs. Coleman and Mrs, Mc- Millan sang praises between the verses. Miss Jennie Hogg led in prayer. Mrs. Keys conducted a Candlelighting Service with all members singing a carol after each reader. Mrs. McMillan as reader No.1 lit a candle for Joy.
