Miss Barbara Longstaff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Longstaff graduated from the Victoria Hospital School of Nurs- ing in London. Seaforth Lions began the new fall season with a steak barbecue. SEPTEMBER 24, 1970. Miss Angela Devereaux has been awarded an entrance scholarship of $400. at Brescia College, London. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Devereaux, Seaforth, Kurt Christensen, former resident of Seaforth, received an Honor degree from Waterloo University. Seaforth Chamber of Com- merce honored Mrs. Bern Henderson at a dinner dance in the Legion Hall. Mr. Wilkinson and Mayor Frank Sills presented her with a desk set and Seaforth emblem. OCTOBER 1, 1970 Dr. R. Hugh Gorwill has been appointed as Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and GYP ecology. Mac Bolton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russel T. Bolton has been appointed Agricultural re- presentative in Bruce County and is living at Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Flanagan Sr. of Dublin celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. OCTOBER 8, 1970 Chas. B. Stewart, native of Seaforth, has been named President of Simpsons, Ltd. Rev. J. C. Britton picked a cane of well formed raspberries. RoSemary Ryan, R.R. 1, Walton was named Queen of the Furrow at the Perth County plowmen's Association atStaffa. Passenger trains to stop run- ning on November 1st. OCTOBER 15, 1970. Optimist Club donated $200. to the Seaforth Agricultural Society for upkeep of the Sea- forth grounds. Seaforth finds fire costs rise. OCTOBER 22, 1970. Harold Dodds' barn of R,R. 4, Walton, was completely des- troyed by fire. The loss was set at $20,000. Mr. and Mrs. James Sloan, marked their 50th wedding anniversary. Rev, E. P. White performed the ceremony. Carolyn Fraser was awarded a Carter scholarship in the final examinations at Seaforth District High School. NOVEMBER 5, 1970 Number 660 makes last run on the C.N.R. through Seaforth. Malcolm Davidson was killed on Highway No. 4. when walking across the road. Six hundred pounds of turkey was used at the fowl supper at Walton. NOVEMBER 12, 1970 Julianne Rau was successful in passing her R.N. exams and is nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs. Ivan Shannon of Walton picked 60 baskets of raspberries from her bushes. NOVEMBER 19, 1970. Judy Walters, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Walters received awards at the second- ary school at Hanover and is now training as a nurse In Strat- ford Hospital. Dr. D. Glenn Campbell was guest speaker at anniversary services in First Presbyterian Church. NOVEMBER 26, 1970 Brucefield United Church was destroyed by fire. Chas. B. Christian William Leonhardt of Brodhagen died suddenly at his home. DECEMBER 10, 1970 The Legion Ladies entertain members of the Senior Citizens at dinner when John Stevens and his group from the OptimistClub from London put on the program. Brucefield congregation agreed to rebuild their church, following a fire on November 30. Clare McGowan of Goderich received a clock from the foster parents of the County. DECEMBER 17, 1970. Martin Baan, R.R. 3, Walton was elected President of the U. D. P.C. Balloon travels 700 miles from Racine, Wisconsin. Mrs. R. K. McFarlane and Leo Hagan each received from the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association, an award for long service in the newspaper profes- sion. A few days after having the aid fitted and adjusted, the old fellow called to thank the specialist who supplied the gadget. "I sure do like it," he declared enthusiastically. "And bet your family likes it, too," said the specialist. "Oh," chuckled the old man, "they still don't know I've got it, and I'm having a great time. Miss Deborah Miller of Seaforth has been appointed sec- retary to Ross Milton, adminis- trator in Huron County for Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology. Creation of a wild life sanctuary northwest of Seaforth in Hullett Township is being proceeded with according to Hugh Flynn, Reeve of Hullett. JUNE 25, 1970. Boys from area cub packs, 104 of them, had their first ex- perience with camping when the Perth District held a Camporee at the Family Paradise Camping Park near Walton. Well known resident of Kippen, Robert Thompson, cele- brated his 93rd birthday. JULY 2, 1970 Dan Beuerman and Mrs. Beuerman marked their 50th wedding anniversary. Seaforth Medical Clinic announced this week that Dr. John W. H. Underwood had joined the staff. Veterans of the First World War were in Exeter when new colors of the 161st Battalion of Huron County were dedicated. Rain forced Lions Carnival into fourth night. JULY 9, 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Geo.Kerslake of town celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Fire which flared when a hydraulic line broke on a large A.J.Wright transport truck and quickly spread to a tar- paulin covering the load. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Kercher were guests of their family on the occasion of their 49th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Bruce were honored on the occasion of +heir 40th wedding anniversary. JULY 16, 1970. New Benmiller Bridge sets construction record. Ronald C. Sills, lawyer, Kit- chener, was one of five people to receive the Vanier award at the Jaycees National Convention. A large L shaped barn on the farm of James McCall, on Highway 25, in Hullett, was completely destroyed by fire. JULY 30, 1970. Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Turner of Hensall, attended the silver wedding anniversary of Mr, and Mrs. Harold Bell in London. Keith Finnegan, Egmondville, was a recent graduate of Fanshawe College, London. 1,000 acres of the future Hullett Public Hunting area have been purchased. Father Francis K. Moylan S.F.M. celebrated his 25th an- niversary Mass at St.Columban. JULY 30, 1970. Dr. C. J. Lacko, of London, will establish a dental practice in Seaforth. Robert Beattie of Seaforth, celebrated his 90th birthday. Seaforth's new Main Street, the Egmondville portion and the new Silver Creek bridge were opened officially. AUGUST 6, 1970. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Naylor of Chatham marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Hugh Edighoffer M. P.P. opens new S.H.A.A. Ball Park. AUGUST 13, 1970 Wm. Thamer's house at Walton was burned to the ground. AUGUST 20, 1970. A miscellaneous shower was held In the Winthrop Church for Miss Jean Patrick, on her ap- proaching marriage, Mrs. Agnes Kale was involved in an accident in St. Columban. Announcement was made of the sale of Mitchell Fertilizer to W.G. Thompson & Sons Ltd. of Blenheim and Hensall. AUGUST 27, 1970. George M. Fusee, marked his 90th birthday. He was a former sales manager of the Robert Bell Engine Co. Gordon Willis, native of Seaforth, and well known banker, has been named Rancho Bernado, representative of Escondido Nat- ional Bank in California. An old log cabin behind the home of John McIver of St. Columban was removed. SEPTEMBER 3, 1970. Miss Belle McClure, member of a pioneer family, marked her 98th birthday. Thieves break into Brucefleld stores. SEPTEMBER 10, 1970 Wm. P. Stapleton , widely known and long time Dublin resident died in Seaforth Com- munity Hospital.
