The Clinton News-Record reports that
there will be an elettion this year when
eight men will run for council, six to be
elected, and five are running for four
positions on the Public Utilities Commis-
sion. Mayor Donald Symons has been
returned by acclamation.
From the Goderich Signal-Star we
note that Hon. C. S. MacNaughton, Provin-
cial Treasurer and Mayor Dr. Frank Mills
shared the honor Sunday afternoon in
Goderich Memorial Arena to cut the ribbon
in ceremonies marking the re-opening of
the recent renovated Arena. Paul Carrot,
a Goderich teacher was elected as
President of the Stratford Teachers'
College Alumni Association at the recent
annual reunion banquet and ball held at the
Stratford Festival building. John Prouse,
13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Prouse landed
a big "catch" recently in the Maitland
River. It was a cohoe salmon measuring
almost 2 1/2 feet in length and weighing
about 9 1/2 pounds. A story appearing
in the Chicago Tribune, following the
recent trip of Colborne Central School
students to Terrell Elementary School of
Chicago, refers to Goderich being a small
town on Lake Ontario, with a population of
600.
The Exeter Times-Advocate reports
that council received a report on the area
flooded on July 29, 1970, and was informed
that it will cost $143,210 to curtail such
flooding in the future. The firm also
estimated it would cost another $118,300
for storm and sanitary sewers in the
central section of the town. The fire
chief, Gary Middleton, following a recom-
mendation from the Fire Marshall's office,
has requested council to appoint a deputy
chief. Mr. and Mrs. Alex McFalls quietly
marked their 50th wedding anniversary re-
cently. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Dearing
of R.R.I, Exeter, marked their golden
wedding anniversary last week, when a
family dinner in their honor was held at
the C rediton Corn munity C entre. A former
Crediton resident, Mrs. Alex Borland,
now of Timmins, observed her 97th birth-
day recently. She was the former Rebecca
Wein of Stephen Township.
The Mitchell Advocate reports that
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bennewies observed
their diamond wedding anniversary and
Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Woolacott marked
their 40th wedding anniversary. Mrs.
Louise Soeder observed her 80th birthday
on Saturday. Of thirteen children in the
family of Mrs. Soeder's parents, ten are
living. The Land Rangers , presented
$100 cheque to the Lions Club towards the
swimming pool fund. To.date the campaign
has reached $4,948.
According to the Zurich Citizens News

evening at the Community Centre when
the Huron County Pony Trotting Club
held their annual dance and awards night.
The three ladies were Mrs. Gladys Ross,
Lucan, secretary; Mrs. Mary Cunningham,
Clandeboye, race secretary and Mrs.
Ethyl Hunter, Stratford, assistant race
secretary.
In the Lucknow Sentinel we note that
Alan Kenneth Chin, son of Mrs. Rose
Chin of Toronto and the late Charles
Chin, was recently granted a Doctor of
Philosophy Degree by the University of
Oregon. He is the youngest of the Chin
family, formerly of Lucknow. Mr. Tom
Park of Dungannon marked his 94th birth-
day on Thursday last.
The Kincardine News reports that Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Burt, who marked their
diamond wedding anniversary Sunday,
celebrated the occasion onSaturday after-
noon at the home of one of their daughters,
Mrs. Allison Collins, Kincardine. Harold
Thompson, owner of the Kincardine Canad-
ian Tire Store, marked twenty-five years
in business on Saturday. The Kincardine
entry in the 1970 Grey Cup Parade left
Kincardine around ten o'clock Sunday for
Toronto.
From the Wiarton Echo we see that
Johnny Bower of Toronto Maple Leafs
was guest speaker at the Wiarton Rotary
dinner.
We see in the Wingham Advance-Times
that Father Mitchell Kaminski is the new
parish priest at Sacred Heart, Wingham
and Brussels. Miss Margaret Yuill was
honored on her 90th birthday by her niece
and friends at the Brookhaven Nursing
Home.
The sod turning ceremonies for the
83-bed nursing home, according to the
Milverton Sun, took place Thursday night
with Reeve Walter Gerth, Brian Garratt,
Stratford, architect and N.B.Montieth,
Waterloo, contractor, taking part. The
new Knollcrest Lodge will serve the
Milverton and district area.
From the Mildmay Town and Country
Crier we note that two months ago a
meeting was held at Formosa to organize
a campaign to raise money for new
floodlights for the Formosa Ball Diamond.
The cost is estimated at about $6,300.
After two months a total of $4,900 has
already been collected or pledged.

DE AR DORIS
-My 13-year-old daughter has
been getting out of hand for the
last month. Last week was the
last straw. I marched her into
the den, turned her across my
knee and gave her the spanking
of her life.
A few days later I spanked
her again so she wouldn't for-
get. My wife said I was too
severe with her. Please give me
your opinion.

More than one girl has made
the mistake of getting engaged
to just anybody because it was
the thing to do. In the case of
One-Track Mind, she needs to
start running on another track
- the one which goes outward
and thinks about and cares about
somebody besides herself.
DEAR DORIS
- My father remarried and
I just love my new mother. My
brothers and their families have
resented our father's remar-
riage. They haven't visited them
since their marriage.
We have been very close, and
I learned quite by accident that
Mom has more money than Dad.
Dad is all for disinheriting my
brothers and leaving everything
to me. Mom wants them all to
share.
All I want is for Dad and Mom
to be happy and enjoy their lives
together. My brothers are mis-
sing so much because Mom and
Dad are such a happy couple,
- I LOVE THEM BOTH
DEAR LOVE - The brothers are
the losers. But since the mar-
riage is a happy one, I'd say
your dad might well issue a
gracious invitation to one brother
evening chat.
Families are worth pulling

'PO CHRISTMAS PARTY: Don't
just count on food and conversa-
tion to make an office party go.
The crowd is too heterogeneous
for you to be sure they'll hit
it off. You have very young
and quite old, married and un-
married (without partners pre-
sent), male and female.
But games and skits can
unite them all in a fun-time.
The pantomimes"Pokey Hunfus"
and "A Day On The Farm" are
hilarious., Need a few props,
about five actors and a little
preparation. I am sending them
to you in your stamped envelope.

A musical number by Mr. and

DEAR DAD - Sounds unfair, es-
pecially that second one. But
there are times when physical
punishment is better than no con-
trol at all.
Physical punishment is us-
ually the last resort of a parent
who has not been able to get
across any loving control, or to
make a son or daughter feel
that he or she has a friend in
that same dad.
In other words, do you and
your daughter ever talk about
anything that matters to her?
Does she ever come to you with
her questions or puzzlements?

She'll date anyone whether

feel popular. What would you
advise for this girl? A change
of job or friends?
She reads your column and
she may wake up before it is
too late. I'm afraid she will
accept a ring from anyone -
just to say she is engaged, too.

CAPITAL VERSUS LABOR IN
COMMUNIST RUSSIA
It seems the problems of
lackadaisical workers is as
much a part of the labor scene in
Russia as in the West. The situa-
tion is perhaps even more serious
there: the lethargy bug has hit the
• scientific researchers of the
USSR. According to Jim Vernon,
editor of Plant Administration &
Engineering, a revolutionary
program of capitalist wage in-
centives is being introduced to "
improve the quality of scientific
work, with bonuses as great as
• 30 percent being added to basic
salaries. Also, there'll be wage
cuts of 25 percent for slackers.
Looks as if capitalism isn't as
dead as it's cracked up to be;
not in Russia, anyway.
