Linda Godkin played the violin DE AR DORIS -My 13-year-old daughter has been getting out of hand for the last month. Last week was the last straw. I marched her into the den, turned her across my knee and gave her the spanking of her life. A few days later I spanked her again so she wouldn't for- get. My wife said I was too severe with her. Please give me your opinion. -STRICT DAD accompanied by her mother Mrs. Mervin Godkin. Beth McNichol Marlene Glanville, Peggy Dennis, Connie Beuermann and Diane Oldfield step danced. More than one girl has made the mistake of getting engaged to just anybody because it was the thing to do. In the case of One-Track Mind, she needs to start running on another track - the one which goes outward and thinks about and cares about somebody besides herself. DEAR DORIS - My father remarried and I just love my new mother. My brothers and their families have resented our father's remar- riage. They haven't visited them since their marriage. We have been very close, and I learned quite by accident that Mom has more money than Dad. Dad is all for disinheriting my brothers and leaving everything to me. Mom wants them all to share. All I want is for Dad and Mom to be happy and enjoy their lives together. My brothers are mis- sing so much because Mom and Dad are such a happy couple, - I LOVE THEM BOTH DEAR LOVE - The brothers are the losers. But since the mar- riage is a happy one, I'd say your dad might well issue a gracious invitation to one brother evening chat. Families are worth pulling 'i.together, even if some of them Aare stubborn.Children are some- times senselessly loyal to a dead parent to the exclusion of a very nice new living one. 'PO CHRISTMAS PARTY: Don't just count on food and conversa- tion to make an office party go. The crowd is too heterogeneous for you to be sure they'll hit it off. You have very young and quite old, married and un- married (without partners pre- sent), male and female. But games and skits can unite them all in a fun-time. The pantomimes"Pokey Hunfus" and "A Day On The Farm" are hilarious., Need a few props, about five actors and a little preparation. I am sending them to you in your stamped envelope. DEAR DAD - Sounds unfair, es- pecially that second one. But there are times when physical punishment is better than no con- trol at all. Physical punishment is us- ually the last resort of a parent who has not been able to get across any loving control, or to make a son or daughter feel that he or she has a friend in that same dad. In other words, do you and your daughter ever talk about anything that matters to her? Does she ever come to you with her questions or puzzlements? DEAR DORIS - What would you say to a girl 19 who is very miserable because ail .her friends are going steady. and family (at a time) to come ot.engagada.. slieJeels, that for an is„ on a shelf at 19. She gets plenty of dates, but she driyes them away because of her one- track mind. She is bored with her job, because the ones at work go steady, too. She'll date anyone whether she , likes him or not, just to feel popular. What would you advise for this girl? A change of job or friends? She reads your column and she may wake up before it is too late. I'm afraid she will accept a ring from anyone - just to say she is engaged, too. - A FRIEND IN NEED DEAR FRIEND - A complete new set of friends or occupation would only provide her with new people to drive away from her.
