SPORTS SCENE
by Ding
'The unexpected happened this week end
In the CFL as the Calgary Stanapeders now meet
the Montreal Alictuettes in the Grey Cup this
Saturday. Montreal had little problem in dis-
posing of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and played a
strong defensive game in upsetting the Ti-Cats
in their home park. The western final game
was a real cliff hanger as the Stamps won In
the final minute of play with a field goal into a
strong wind. The Roughriders missed Ron Lan-
caster at quarterback and failed to live up to
their reputation as they failed to make the Cup
game. This year's Grey Cup will provide an
oddity as both teams finished third in their res-
pective leagues. It will be the first. time that a
third place team from the east has made it to the
Grey Cup game. The game itself should provide
plenty of excitement as both teams have explosive
offences and outstanding defences, since I had
picked the west to win with Sas. I'll stick to
the western team and pick the Stamps to win by
14 points.
A slight typographical error last week said
that the teams we will discuss this week were to
be the New York Rangers and the Minnesota
North Stars. However the teams I had picked
earlier to finish third in their respective leagues
were Montreal and Minnesota so we'll begin
with the Canadians from Montreal. With several
key personnel either being traded or retiring
the Canadians will have a real struggle to finish
even this high up. However, since I had placed
Montreal third one of their math players has
come out of retirement and will give them a real
big lift, The player I'm referring to is none
other than John Ferguson who, when going right,
can really give his team a lift. I have put the
North Stars in third this season as I feel that
they have matured considerably this year and
with a few breaks could be a real strong con-
tender for the western title. The Stars have
the scoring power and if their goaltending will
stand up, this season could be the Stars' year.
Activity at the local arena has increased
considerably in th e past few days as hockey is
now in full swing along with figure skating and
public skating, there are few days when some
activity • isn't being carried on. The Beavers
have now officially opened their season and at
Tuesday's game the players of last year's
Championship team were presented with indi-
vidual trophies , compliments of the Recreation
Committee and the Town of Seaforth. Let's get
out and cheer them on .to another Championship
and trophy.
The ice surface across the street from the
arena is also into another season and both sexes
are enjoying an evening's entertainment and round-
ing themselves into shape by sliding those stones
the length of the ice. There is lots of room for
anyone interested in taking up curling as a winter
activity.
With the recent snowfall ski-doolag and skiing
will be the order of the day for many outdoor
enthusiasts, providing , of course, that we don't
get •snowed in. With the large increase in the
number of snowmobiles, safety is the main factor,
so don't let an accident spoil your winter fun.

Seaforth's Intermediate ho-
ckey team opened their home

10-4 victory over Crediton
in a game played here T-
uesday night. In a rough pen-
alty filled game before a.
fair crowd. Bob Beuttennii-
ller led the local's scoring
parade with 3 goals, with
Jack Mellwain and Terry
Craig adding two each.
Harvey Dale, Ed Dolmage
and Ray Henderson added s-
ingles to round out the loc-
al's scoring. Credition pic-
ked up sixteen penalties to
Seaforth's six, in an extre-
mely poor. With only cl-
triton and Crediton providing
the opposition the local team
attempting to find a more
