How- ever they caused about $500 worth of damage in their hunt for money. Doors on the principal's office and the storeroom were smashed when the thieves entered the rooms and the combination dial on a vault in the . office was knocked off. The vandals also entered all the classrooms and removed money from the Red Cross col- lection jars. Vice-principal Gary Jewltt said that less. than $10 was taken. Efforts to enter the vault were, unsuccessful but even if the thieves had gained entry they would have, been disappointed as the vault is used for storing records only. Nothing of value is kept in it. Huron Sets Plans for Achievement Days 4-H Homemaking Club Achievement Days are soon to be held .in Huron County. This fall the prOject has been "Focus on Fitness" and the club mem- bers have learned how to main- tain good physical and mental health,' home and highway safety, first aid, as well as how to be a good citizen both at home and ir in the community. Each girl equips a first aid kit, completes a record book and finishes one of the following handcrafts; knit- ting, buck weaving, a stuffed animal or a mobile. Miss Catherine .Hunt, Home Economist for Huron County will be in charge of the Achievement Days which will be held in the Seaforth District High School, November 21st; Wingham District High School, November 28th; Ho- wick Central School, December 5th; Exeter High School, Decem- ber 12th; Zurich ,Community Centre, January 9th; and Clinton High School, January 16th. MESSENGERS The Messengers met during the Church Service on Sunday with twenty-four present. Pamela Rodd opened the meeting with quiet music. Paul Brine read the scripture after which Mar- garet Parkinson led in prayer. Calvin Rodd gave a reading and David and Susan Spence favoured with a duet. A film on "Selfishness" was shown and Mrs. Glenn Copeland presented the Study Book. Ste- phanie Hartwick and Christine Tomlinson took up the offering. Sillery and Mrs. John McEwen had charge of the devotions. Mrs. M cEwen opened the meeting with a story of the Widow's Mite, also spoke on "Peace". Hymn 356 was sung, followed by prayer. Mrs. Sil- lery read the 12th chapter of Mark and stated that it must be. real value. She also spoke on talents and their real value. The offering was received by Mrs. Sillery and dedicated by Mrs. McEwen and followed by prayer by Mrs. Sillery. The president Mrs. Paterson chaired the business part of the meet- ing, a card of Thanks from Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Stoll, thanking one and all for helping to make their 25th anniversary a plea- sant event, also a card of thanks from Mrs. Sholdice for remem- bering her while a patient in London Hospital. A card was also signed by members for Mrs. Wm. Pepper, who is a patient in"Clinton Hospital. Mrs. Broadfoot reminded the ladies that boxes will be packed for the shut-in on December 2nd, also that all reports are to be ready for the December meeting. The annual Christmas party will be held at the home of Mrs. John Broulfoot on December 4th and will feature a prograth pre- pared by Mrs. Wm. McCartney and Mrs. E. Paterson. Miss Dianne Miller of Staffa received honours for completing six projects. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Laidlaw and son, John, of London visited on sunday with Mrs. J. R Jeffer- son. Mrs. Norman Harburn and Mrs. J. R. Jefferson visited Wed- nesday with Mrs. Robert Dodds at Huronview, Clinton and also with Mrs. George Jefferson at Clinton Hospital. Miss Bonnie Kerslake, student at Western University, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everard Kerslake and attended the Com- mencement exercises atSeaforth D.H.S. We congratulate Miss Barbara Kerslake who was the recipient of several awards at Commencement exercises at Seaforth D. H. S. Friday night. Barbara received the G.A.Whit- ney award, a cedar chest and the C.M.Smith Memorial Trophy for having highest marks in the school when a Grade 9 student last year, also the Seaforth, Teen Twenty award value $100.00 for highest average during the school year. The Boy Scouts spent the day at Morrison's Dam dear Exeter on Saturday. Mr. Ben Ruston is a patient in Victoria Hospital, Londpn having undergone surgery. MISSIONARY SOCIETY Mrs. E. Moore was hostess for the November meeting of the Womens Missionary Society of Cromarty Church. Mrs. Will Miller presided and opened the meeting with a poem. Scripture was read in unison and Mrs. Miller led in prayer. Psalm selection 23 was sung to the tune "Crimond" with Mrs. K. Mc- Kellar reading poems "Gratit- ude" and "MY Brother'sKeeper Mrs. T.L.Scott singing the Des- cant. The roll call was answered by 10 members, each one naming a favorite parable. Routine re- ports were given by the secretary and the treasurer. Mrs. M. Dow presented a portion of the Study Book and conducted the business period. Some discussion regard- ing the new Study Book and the current Sunday School lesson system was had. The secretary annotincedt.the annual meeting of Stratford Presbyterial to be held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Stratford, on January 13th, 1971. Mrs. C. McKaig reported 6 visits and 31 cards and letters sent to the sick. "In Flanders Fields" was read and current events were given by each member. Hymn 852 and the Lord's prayer closed the meeting. Mrs. Sam McCurdy and „Miss Nettie McCurdy assisted the hostess in serving lunch. Correspondent MISS JEAN COPELAND Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Beckett and Geraldine and Cy Grimminik visited Sunday even- ing with Mr. and Mrs.Gerald Tyler and family of Dash wood. Miss Jacqueline Beckett of Galt spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Law- rence Beckett and Geraldine. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jaques and family were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lam- bert and family of Davison,Mich. Mr. Fred Parkinson has re- turned home from an enjoyable hunting trip in the Huntsville area. A number of ladies of the community attended the bazaar in the St. Pauls Anglican Church, Kirkton on Thursday evening. Mrs. Arthur Hopkin had as her guests Sunday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Lawson and family of St. Marys. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Berry of Toronto were week end guests with Mr. Allan Berry. A hearty welcome is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Allan McLen- nan, Ken, Marit and Tor who have moved into the village. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN The tilted Church Women met for their regular meeting on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Ted Insley opened the meeting with quiet music and Mrs. Fred Park- inson gave the Call to Worship. Readings for Armistice were given by Mrs. Margaret Baker, Mrs. Oliver Baker and Mrs. Duncan McNaughton and Mrs. Nelson Baker.. Mrs. Olive Baker introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Stewart Miner of Thames Road who spoke on "The Highways of Life".
