Reeve Harold Robinson,
Howick, asked members of the
Huron County executive commit-
tee Friday afternoon why it had
not recommended concurrence
with a resolution from the County •
of Perth to abolish County Boards
of Education.
"I think it is regrettable,",
stated Robinson.
Chairman Jack Alexandertota
him his committee had felt that
since the county boards of educat-
ion had been established at
considerable expense, "they
should have a chance".
Reeve James Hayter, Stephen,
reminded council that ifd rate-
payers felt the costs Of-d Ucat-
ion were too high, they would have
an opportunity very shortly to
elect new board members whom
they felt would keep a closer eye
on expenses.
Charles Thomas, reeve of
Grey, said he had been receiving
some complaints which Ehould
have gone to the school board.
"I'm just not sure that the •
county school board is working
very well when this happens,"
he added.
Reeve Robinson stated that
since the Perth resolutionhad
been introduced, there was an
investigation planned into the
workings of the Perth County
Board of E ducat:1611,D ?90,. t ;"'

leattem.-Shearddvm, deputy-
reeve of Goderich; asked the
committee to explain its reason-
ing for not concurring with a
Goderich Town Council resolu-
tion to have welfare assistance
administered by the province.
Reeve Alexander anewered
that the committee had not wanted;
to give the province "another
foothold".
Reeve Sheardown noted, that
welfare assistance cases in
Goderich had risen from 38 le
August to 53 in September.
"It is over-taxing our staff
at the town hall," he stated.
"That was the reason far, the
resolution."
In other business, council
learned that salaries paid to
the secretarial staff have been
reviewed an d a new schedyle • will he in effect in 1971. There
was no indication in the report,
as to the terms of the schedule
except to note that sick leave
credits will be adjusted from
one day to one and one half days
per month effective January 1,
1911. 0 In the future, all secretarial
staff being engaged by the county
department will be channelled
through "one person and one
