It was agreed that the Women's Institute would cater for the Walton-Bantam Ball Team in the near future with a committee named to make plans. The Euchre card parties will start on November 13 with the following committee in charge; Mrs. Harold Wilson, Mrs. Mer- vin Smith, Mrs. Jim McDonald and Mrs. Mac Sholdice. The committee in charge of arranging the card party set for Friday, November 27 will be; Mrs. Wil- bur Turnbull, Mrs. J. Van Vliet, Sr., Mrs. Harvey Craig and Mrs. Stewart Humphries. Mrs. Allan McCall gave a report of the two day Guelph Area Women's Institute Conven- ' tion which she attended last month at the University of Guelph. A report of the County Women's Institute Rally held recently at Centralia was given by the dele- gates Mrs. George McCall and Mrs. Alvin McDonald. The meeting was turned over to the convenors on Health. Mrs. Roy Williamson introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. D. S. McNaughton of Wingham, who spoke on Cancer, giving many details what they are doing and what can be done. She is active at the Wingham Cancer Clinic. Mrs. Harold Bolger thanked Mrs. McNaughton for her message and presented' her with a gift. Mrs. W. E. Turnbull presented Mrs. Rachel Walters with a gift on behalf of the Walton Institute as a valid member when she resided in our community. Lunch was served by Mrs. Ken McDonald, Mrs. George McCall, Mrs. Jim Fritz, Mrs. Harold Bolger, Mrs. Wilbur Turnbull and Mrs. J. Van Vliet, J r. BRIDAL SHOWER Miss Jean Roe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Roe was guest of honor at a bridal shower held in the basement of Duff's United Church Thursday evening. Mrs. Murray pennis was mis- tress of ceremonies opening the program with step dancing num- bers by Peggy Dennis and Beth McNichol. A musical number was given by Debbie and Dena Wey and Lois Wildfong. Several con- tests were enjoyed throughout the' evenine's entertainment. The bride-tolbe and her mother, MOS. Roe and the groom's mother, Mrs. Racho were presented with corsages and escorted to the front by Lois Wildfong, Nancy McNichol and Delores Beuerman. Miss Ethel Dennis read an address of congratulations and best wishes to Jean. After open- ing her gifts she thanked every- one for the gifts. Lunch was served by the McKlllop Unit ladies. Reeves Query Action • Reeve Harold Robinson, Howick, asked members of the Huron County executive commit- tee Friday afternoon why it had not recommended concurrence with a resolution from the County • of Perth to abolish County Boards of Education. "I think it is regrettable,", stated Robinson. Chairman Jack Alexandertota him his committee had felt that since the county boards of educat- ion had been established at considerable expense, "they should have a chance". Reeve James Hayter, Stephen, reminded council that ifd rate- payers felt the costs Of-d Ucat- ion were too high, they would have an opportunity very shortly to elect new board members whom they felt would keep a closer eye on expenses. Charles Thomas, reeve of Grey, said he had been receiving some complaints which Ehould have gone to the school board. "I'm just not sure that the • county school board is working very well when this happens," he added. Reeve Robinson stated that since the Perth resolutionhad been introduced, there was an investigation planned into the workings of the Perth County Board of E ducat:1611,D ?90,. t ;"' • leattem.-Shearddvm, deputy- reeve of Goderich; asked the committee to explain its reason- ing for not concurring with a Goderich Town Council resolu- tion to have welfare assistance administered by the province. Reeve Alexander anewered that the committee had not wanted; to give the province "another foothold". Reeve Sheardown noted, that welfare assistance cases in Goderich had risen from 38 le August to 53 in September. "It is over-taxing our staff at the town hall," he stated. "That was the reason far, the resolution." In other business, council learned that salaries paid to the secretarial staff have been reviewed an d a new schedyle • will he in effect in 1971. There was no indication in the report, as to the terms of the schedule except to note that sick leave credits will be adjusted from one day to one and one half days per month effective January 1, 1911. 0 In the future, all secretarial staff being engaged by the county department will be channelled through "one person and one person only". The secretary-treasurer Mrs. Bill Humphries read the minutes and the roll call was answered by 35 members, donating a gift for the Cancer Cupboard. There were 3 guests.
