Voters' List
showing the supposed hierarchy
of the Mafia in the province.
Robert Nixon, Ontario Liberal
Leader, speaking in the Legis-
lature on Ontario tax reform
proposals said the Provincial
Government has failed to de-
velop the modern tax system
the Province needs.
Instead there are grants to
municipalities, handouts based
on political realities such as
the shelter exemption, the pay-
ments to farmers, payments to
pensioners which in fact amount
simply to gross overtaxation.
He continued, "We are now
approaching $200 million in these
programs. The money is ex-
tracted from our citizens. It
then goes through the nurturing
hands of the public service and
is returned to the taxpayers at
some suitable time in the guise
of tax reform."
or 9% and for secondary from
$1000 to $1,060 or 6%.
Dr. Morton Shulman (NDee
High Park) speakin g in the
budget debate this week item-
ized his claims in the
Legislature that organized crime
is active In Ontario.
Dr. Shulman said his infor-
mation came from Provincial
Police who were investigating
the matter for Attorney General
Arthur Wishart but who became
frustrated when Mr. Wishart
failed to act on the information.
The U. S. Police had also
assisted greatly according to
Dr. Shulman.
He produced a copy of a
New York State Police sheet
Education Minister Wm.
Davis has told Ontario Boards
of Education he wants them to
keep their spending within the
department's guidelines by 1972.
The Minister has written to
all board chairmen indicating he
will not allow boards to spend
More than the maximum set by
the province under which they
may get provincial grants.
At the moment boards may
spend more if they pay the ex-
cess totally from local taxes.
Mr. Davis in his letter set
the new amounts per pupil on
which the department will have
its grants for 1970-71. The
amount for elementary pupils
is raised from $500 to $545

Notice is hereby given that I have
complied with Section 9 of the Voters'
List Act and that I have posted up at my
office at Londesboro on the 30th day of
October, 1970, the list of persons entitled
to vote in the Municipality at Municipal
Elections, and that such list remains here
for inspection.
And I hereby call upon all Voters to
take immediate proceedings to have any
errors or omissions corrected according
to law, the last day for appeal being the
14th day of November, 1970.
ure. It takes more than an open
book to make a person read,
digest and put into practice a
good idea.
DEAR DORIS
- My mother says it is not in
good taste for a lady to have
pierced ears. I want to pierce
mine so I can wear those cute
little earrings.
- Sixteen
DEAR SIXTEEN - Nothing to do
with taste. Many well-born
women have had pierced ears.
But health is involved. A
family doctor tells me he has
had girls coma to see him who
have long, flabby ear lobes with
ragged holes in them. The cause
was heavy' earrings. It is not IP
eas y to repair this kind of
damage.
If the piercing is done by a
skilled professional, and the girl
confines herself to the light,,cute
type of earring, it is O.K., both
health-wise and fashion-wise.
DEAR DORIS
- Whose responsibility is it
to see that the news of a shower
or wedding appears in the local
paper?
- Interested
DEAR INTERESTED - Bride
or bride's family. But it would
have to be a prominent girl
indeed to have a shower written
up in the local news. •
If reporters are asking the
groom-to-be for a premature
announcement he may say, "Yes,
I do know Miss Pretty, but any
plans which may develop will be
announced by her family."
DEAR DORIS ,
- I am 16, 5 feet, '9 inches,
and weigh 175 pounds. Could you
suggest any diets, food restrict-
ions, exercises? I believe that
all my other problems are based
on my "fatty" complex.
- Tiny
DE AR TINY - You have 25 pounds
to go, to serenity, then. For
exercise, walk everywhere you
go, making sure your shoes are
right for R. Jog on the spot.
Do the bends and stretches I'm
sending. you, and keep faithfully
to the Simple Reducing Diet which
is also on its way.
I promise 'you'll get results.
DEAR DORIS
My niece, who is 26, became
so miserable and quiet that her
husband was alarmed about her.
She used to be the life of the
party, She is getting worse,
staring into space most of the
time. She refuses to see a
doctor.
I spoke to my doctor about
her and he thinks she is schizo-
phrenic. The only thing he could
suggest was that her husband get
a psychiatrist to go to the house;
but he- admitted this would be
rather expensive.
-Worried
DEAR WORRIED - My psychia-
tric consultant thinks she may
indeed be schizophrenic. And you
don't let expense hold you back
when a life is-slowly being sealed
off into a tomb.
Treatment is urgent; hospi-
tal treatment, he says. She can
be cured now; later, it will be
far more difficult. A psychia-
trist, making a cell at the house
could commit her to an
institution.
When this type of illness
strikes, it is the family's obli-
gation not to leave the choice of
treatment to the patient. The
wonder is that in this enlightened
day and age mental illness can
go untreated for so long.
DEAR DORIS
- Would appreciate it if you
would send me something about
proper etiquette and anything else
you have about getting along with
people, grooming, etc.
I have one person in mind who
needs help, but wouldn't hurt her
feelings by talking to her. Any-
thing in writing she will pick
up and read for herself andlearn
by it.
- A Million. Thanks
DEAR MILLION - Planning to ,
throw'i the book at her? It's a
useful old dodge to just leave
things around for an erring soul
to trip over.
I can send a list of books on •
manners; an article for teens
on growing up; one for the half-
century on Growing Lovelier
With the Years. Better tell me
more about your Problem Case.
Better also be ready for fail-
