HERE ARE THE NINE MAIN CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS
AVOID THESE SIMPLE DON'TS "FOR SAFETY'S SAKE"
1. STAY AWAY FROM JUMPS
JumPing the snowmobile has been singled
out as the most prevalent cause of injuries,
especially broken backs.
2. LACK OF EXPERIENCE
Interviews have revealed that many acci-
dents occur immediately after a family
bought a machine. Many of these victims
were inexperienced and unfamilar with the
equipment.
3. POOR VISIBILITY
Is the cause of several accidents yearly.
Reflectors and brake lights are important
when travelling at night.
4. EXCESSIVE SPEED
Excessive speeding is extremely hazardous.
Reduce your speed in line with snow and
weather conditions.
5. ALCOHOL
Several accidents have resulted when• driv-
ers have had a few drinks before demon-
strating their driving skills.
6. BARB WIRE
This is. a hazard related to speeding and
poor visibility. Several accidents involving
barb wire have caused hospitalization.
7. STEEP GRADES. -- CLIMBING
Many inexperienced drivers were injured
when 'they attempted• to climb steep em-
bankments.
8. EQUIPMENT NOT IN REPAIR
Keep your machine- in good mechanical
condition. Have it checked frequently.
9. THIN ICE
Before riding °vet ice be sure it is thicl
enough to support the weight of the ma-
chine and passengers. At least three inches
is recommended. Keep machines spaced
well apart 'When travelling over ice.
