Mercury leads off with two brand-new
models pored by two sensational new
engines. Available in 30-hp (Lightning) and,
25-hp (Rocket) versions. Both machines are
designed with a low center of gravity to
-provide- maxiinum stability and maneuver=
ability. Mercury's exclusive l5K-ineh super-
climbing track prepares the snow for,
proved traction. Rugged instant-action steer-
ing and new moisture-sealed control dablcs
provide safe, easy operation.
Mounted on the lightweight aluminum chas-
sis is a look-of-the-future body shape with a
wraparound chrome-plated steel bumper,
sculptured air intake louvers and stream-
lined dual headlights with safety lens covers.
A Sufi 5-inch-thick padded rubber trail seat
Permits hours of comfortable riding. The
_cowl is hinged at, the front for complete,
instant access to the powerhead andWA-kit.
New trouble-free rubber latches provide
positive looking, even under the roughest
. conditions.
Only Mercury has the exclusive "spoiler"
-windshield for increased protection, without
increased area. The top edge has a molded-in
deflector that lifts the air flow over the
driver's head.
The new super-smdoth-running snowmobile

alternate-firing Mere Lightning and Rocket
engines are especially designed for snow-
mobile power. They're lightweight, efficient
and highly responsive. The big news is a
new axial-flow fan that produces adequate
cooling air at higher rpm where. other.coolr
ing designs fail. Cooling air is directed to the
cylinders (where the action 'is). This new
design eliminates the old-fashioned high
powerhead profile—gives the new Merc Light-
ning and Rocket a lower center of gravity
for maximum stability and better control
