change to fit in. Do you have any
ideas as to how I can take a
quickie ',maturity course"?
-GIDDY TEENYBOPPER
DEAR GIDDY - Awkward, isn't
it? Ohe of the penalties of being
smart! You aren't the first
'person • to find himself 'out • of
-his -depth.
Overnight polish is not the
answer. Let them tease you if
they like; be your natural self,
since enthusiasm is the winner
In the long run.
Things might just take an
interesting twist_ if you found
yourself some chums your own
age. •They'd be proud to claim a
modeSt "brain" in their crowd.,
DEAR DORIS
- I am 16 and have gone out
with a certain 17-year-old boy,
three times so far, and really
enjoy myself with him. His
sister, one of my close friends,
asked me what we did on our
last date, and I told her.
Well, the other day she said
something' that "just slipped
out", and he took it wrongly and
got all upset. He- said.: ',Does 4/*
she tell you everything?" To
which she answered, "No!" And
he said, bet you ask her!"
I feel terrible. I can just
imagine what he must think of
me. I deeply regret telling her
anything, and now I could cry.
He has obviously jumped to con-
clusions - but what can I do
about it?
- DESPERATE
DEAR DESPERATE - What you
told must have been of the "Clas-
sified" • variety; couldn't have
been about whether it rained, or
you saw a picture or went danc-
ing.
Did you reveal about him
something you wouldn't want tiim
to tell about you? Boys learn
whether they can trust their
girls or not. -If this one episode
teaches you not to betray con-
fidence, it Will have been worth
it.
But you can apologize. And
since he likei you, It is quite
possible he will forgive and for-
get.
DEAR DORIS
- (1) Are blue or different
colors of stationery wrong to use
when you're writing business
letters?
(2) Is colored paper wrong
for friendly letters?
(3) Is stationery with cute
little verses wrong to use?
- UNSURE
DEAR UNSURE - (1) -Yes. (2)
No. (3) No. ,
CONFIDENTIAL TO NEEDING
HIM - Sorry, Sweetie, but it isn't
always possible to get that wan-
dering boy back. funny thing
is, often when a girl likes you
does find him back on the door 10
step, as often `as not she wishes
he wasn't!
You be, we change. Do you
want the same storybooks that
entranced you in Grade 1? If
our ideas stayed the same,
there'd really, be cause for
alarm. Same with-our friends..
Next month this time, or
maybe next week, you'll be
laughing at today's desperation.
Look around for new worlds to
conquer.

DEAR DORIS
- I was against getting a dog,
'but our 12-year-old daughter
never let up .until we finally got
her one.
After we had him two monthsli
talked with her and we agreed to
give him - away, and -then she
m is sed-hiniandher father got him
back.
" Doris, I am 51. I have raised
four children and now I want to be
free to go out once in a while. -I
don't want the extra work that a
dog involves. •
-IN A QUANDARY
DEAR QUANDARY - With every
joy comes a responsibility.
Talk with her again. Put on
her shoulders the tasks involved
in caring for him: feeding,
bathing, walking him, making him
behave. If she decides she wants
him on these terms, I'd suggest
you try it.
It Is a fallacy that someone
must .stay home to dog-sit. An
ariult dog can be left alone for up
to eight hours, confined in base-
ment, or kitchen, with food and
water and a few toys to chew on.
Ther e are books and clubs
for dog owners and a great joy in
the owning Of one if it is done
right.
DEAR DORIS
- I am a boy 16 and in grade
12. Most people in my classes
last year were aged 17 or 18.
They seemed to think I was
childish because I openly dis-
played my enthusiasm over
things, while they tried to hide
theirs. I think it Is supposed to
make them- appear "cool" or
something.
I have to associate with them
all day, and this is beginning
to get on my nerves. I think that
I, rather than all of them, should
