styling of the gowns featured long
sleeves and cavalier cuffs and
rolled collar. The Empire styled
bodice was covered in embroi-
dered lace work. The waist back
featured a tie bow. They carried
nateral baskets of yellow shasta
Ri es trimmed with purple rib-
bon.

For a wedding trip to Niagara
Falls and Northern Ontario, the
bride chose a green tweed coat
and dress ensemble with black
accessories and she wore a yel-

The Explorer Group met last
Tuesday evening in the United
Church and the following offi-
cers were elected: President -
Miss Cathy Taylor; Vice-Presi,

iod and the meeting was closed
with the Explorer prayer.

The United Church Women
held their Thanksgiving meeting
last Wednesday evening in the
Church with twenty-two members
answering the roll call with a
gift for the Bazaar which will
be held on Wednesday, November
25th. Twelve visitors were also
present, The president; Mrs.
Willia m Do wson opened the meet-
ing with prayer. Group Two had
charge of devotions with Mrs.
Grant Webster leading Psalm
731 was read responsively and
Mrs. Watson Webster had charge
of the Study Book. Two poems
on Thanksgiving were read by
Mrs.. Mei vy1.1 Hayter and Mrs.
Dowson. The offering
was taken up by Mrs. Murdock
Morrison' and dedicated by Mrs.
Harvey Hayter. Mrs. J. Veilleux
of Brucefield gave a very int-
eresting demonstration on mak-
ing artificial flowers. She was
thanked by Mrs. William Dowson.
Mrs. Watson Webster closed the
meeting with prayer. Group One
served lunch.

The annual meeting of the
Local Association of Guides and
Brownies was held Tuesday even-
ing at the Hensall United Church.
Mrs. Ron Mock was introduced
as the new President of the org-
anization by Mrs. E. Rowe, who
is retiring after several years
of service. Mrs. Mock expressed
appreciation of the L.A. and
members for excellent co-opera-
tion and service. Two new Guid-
ers were introduced, Mrs. Glad-
ing and Mrs. Rita Van Oeiren
replacing Mrs. Jean Turner and
Mrs. Carol Cooper.
Business consisted of setting
a date for the Candy Sale as
October 24th and making
arrangements for a Cookie Sale
to be held in the Spring. Mrs.
Kay Elder was appointed to the
office of Public Relations. Prior
to adjournment, Mrs. T. Lave
ender brought the group up to
date on the building of the new
Campsite.
SET PLANS FOR
INSTALLATION
Vice Grand, Mrs. Jack Tay-
lor presided for the meeting of
Amber Rebekah Lodge in the
absence of Noble Grand, Mrs.
Elgin Thomson, held last Wed-
nesday evening. The meeting was
informed that cards had been
sent to a number of sick and
shut-ins, and friends of the
Lodge. Discussion took place
about plans to attend the meeting
and banquet at Exeter in Nov-
ember in honor of the Assembly
President, Miss Audrey Miller
of Ottawa and Mrs. Lois
McFells, District Deputy Presi-
dent., of Exeter.
Installation Of officers of Am-
ber Lodge will be held November
4th when the installing staff of

LEGION LADIES AUXILIARY
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary
met in the Legion Hall Tuesday
evening, October 6th for their
October meeting with Past Presi-
dent Mrs. Garnet Allan presid-
ing. She announced a draw for
a $50.00 dollar bill will be held
Saturday, October 17th in charge
of the Sports Committee, Mrs.
Clarence Reid and Mrs. Alice
Koehler. The sports committee
will send bowling teams to a
bowling tournament in Exeter
in the near future. Members
will canvass for the C.N.I. B.
early in October.
The group decided to go out
for dinner to celebrate the 21st
birthday of the Auxiliary.
Mrs. W. H. Bell reported on
the Legion Auxiliary Convention
held at Niagara 'Falls, which
she, president Mrs. Vic Stan,.
and Mrs. Clarence Reid attended.
Mrs. Grant Bisback won the mys-
tery prize, and Mrs. Grant

Details of township nominat-
ions were agreed on when Hibbert
Township Council met for its
October meeting.
Nomination for a Separate
School Trustee for the Town-
ship of Hibbert, Fullerton and
the Town of Mitchell will be held
at the Township Hall, Staffa,
Monday, November 23rd between
the hours of 1 and 2 o'clock p.m.
and the Nomination meeting for
reeve and council will be held
Friday, November 27th and the
elections, if necessary, will be
held December 7th. The rate
Payers in Polling Sub-division
No. 3 will vote at liarhurn's
store in Cromarty instead of No.6
School where elections were held
in former years. Elections will
be for a two year term.

were received for supplying,
loading and hauling approxim-
ately 6,000 cu. yards pit run
gravel to Con. 2 & 3 at the new
bridge site. The lowest tender
was 47 1/21 cu. yd and J. Gordon
Stiles, Brussels, was the succes-
sful bidder, subject to the
approval of the Department of
Highways.
Court of Revision was held
on the Ausable River Dr. by..

Staffa #1 homemaking club
"Staffa Woolies" held their 6th
meeting at the home of their
leader Mrs. Spencer Jeffery.
Mrs. Jeffery demonstrated the
proper way of applying a waist
band to a skirt, and how to do
invisible` mending. Mrs. Butson
showed the girls how to cover
a button and the proper method
of sewing on a book and eye.
Meeting 7 was held at the
home of Mrs. Bill Butson. Roll
call was answered by all eleven
girls. Plans were made for Ach-
ievement Day and the club ex-
hibit. Mrs. Jeffery discussed a
prober hem for a skirt and how
to darn a wool skirt. Mrs. But-
son discussed how to care for
wool properly.
30 in the amount of $85,554.69
was ordered signed. The tender
of Gordon Clarke, Listowel, was
accepted for the open portion of
the McMillan Dr. at a price of
$2,665.00 with the authority re-
ceived to 'do the open portion
only at this time, until the appeal
on the closed portion is heard by
the County Judge and the by-law
can be passed.
Dies In
McKillop
PORTER A. DENNIS
Porter A. Dennis, 86, of
RR. 1, Walton, died Monday at
his home In McKillop.
He was born in McKillop
Township and lived in the area
all his life. He farmed for many
years until his retirement.
He was married in 1918 to
the former Mary Meehan of
Grey Township. His wife died
in 1933.
Surikving are five daughters,
Mrs. Sam (Elsie) McSpadden,
Otterville; Mrs. Gordon (Flor-
ence) Wood, Mitchell; Mrs.
Kenneth (Grace) Wilbee ' of
Ethel; Mrs. Alvin(lielen)Stms,
Sault Ste. Marie; Mrs. Wesley
(Ruth) Rowe, Toronto; three
sons, Murray and Donald, both
of McKillop Township, Grant
of Toronto; two brothers, Wil-
son and Lloyd, both of Swifte
Current, Sack; 22 grandchildren
and two great grandchildren.
The body is at the R, S. Box
funeral home, Seaforth, where
funeral service will be held 2
p.m. Thursday. Burial will be
in Brussels cemetery.
