The Zurich Minor Athletic Association and the Hensel' Minor Athletic Association are combining their efforts this season to sponsor a Junior "D" team and will be known as the combines. In the Brussels Post we note that Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Morrow, R.R. 3, Brussels and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Young, of R. 9.1, Blyth, entertained at the former's home at a family gatheringand friends to honor their parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed, Morrow, Ethel on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. District Gover- nor, Frank Barnes of Arthur visited the Brussels' Lions Club recently. A new member, Lion Jack Knight, was welcomed to the meeting. Raspberries have come for a second time, according to the St. Marys Journal Argus , as there have been several reports of picking them in the St. Marys area. Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Gregory entertained in honor of Mrs. George W. Gregory on the occas- ion of her 98th birthday. One of Austral- ia's leading artists, Sir Arthur Streeton, was guest of honor at a reception held at the home of his former grandparents, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hall. He left St. Marys 48years ago. The Wingham Advance-Times reports that Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rawn are without a 11 v able home for the second time in a little over two years. Sunday evening their present home was damaged to the extent of approximately $3,500. Most of their bedding and clothing were lost. Mrs. Richard (Dick) Wagers of Fordwich celebrated- her 88th birthday recently. Mrs. Jennie Mosure at the village nursing home in Fordwich marked her 98th birth- day. Donald M. Gillies, a native of Teeswater, who is employed with the Federal Veterans AffairS Department, has been awarded $1,000 for his "high level of administrative and organizational achievements". He was responsible for the plans to amalgamat e the London and Toronto divisions of the departments operations. The Kincardine News reports in a Ripley item that it is always a nice sight to see the wild geese flying over- head. On Friday morning the first flock of Canada geese flew over Ripley in a due south direction ,(Lee-Hee would like to have that read "the first flock of Canada geese flew over Seaforth in a Hee due north direction), and with their loud honking they attracted the attention of many district residents. From the Elmira Signet we scan an item which reports that more than 400 people or about 10% of Elmira's popul- ation will be needed in 1971 to make the annual maple syrup festival as succes- sful as the past one. It relates that' over half of the 400 will be needed to run the pancake booths alone. Profits from the 19170 festival were over $10,000. (note - Wonder if Seaforth couldn't organize something to make a profit of $10,000 - maybe taxes could be lowered If council had an extra $10,000 to work with.) The Mitchell Advocate tells us that the local Jacees held a car rally among themselves recently and the project worked out so well, they now plan to develop it for -public participation next, year. The experiment and plans for the 100 mile route were planned by Jacees Don Williams and Peter DeCoo. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stacey planned a surprise celebration on the occasion of their fortieth wedding an- niversary , held In Woodstock. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Hillebreciit quietly ob- served the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage recently. Again we come across raspberries in local gardens. Mrs. C. Howard and Ferdinand Miller say the present crop is very good. The Exeter Times-Adocate reports that the Exeter Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star has donated modern hair drying equipment for use at the Blue Water Rest Home at Zurich. OPP Cpl. C.J.Mitchell has. been transferred to the Whitby detachment. He has been head of the local detachment for the past seven years since arriving from Woodstock. He commences his new duties on October 13th. Exeter municipal nominations will beheld on November 26 and the nominations for• - school boards, November 23rd. Miss Linda Hackney, representing Kongskilde Limited, was chosen Queen of the Fair at Exeter on Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Cameron, accord-4 ing to the Lucknow Sentinel marked their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Mr. Geo. Kemp celebrated his 98th birthday recently. Mrs. Olive Smith of Lucknow is a daughter.
