In scanning the Zurich Citizens News
we note that Glen Thiel, R.R. 3, Zurich, was
elected president of the Zurich Chamber
of Commerce at their annual meeting. He
succeeds Leroy Thiel, who held the
position for the past two years. Irvin
Elliott, manager of the Hensel! Branch of
the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce
has been transferred to the Ailsa Craig
Branch. He is being replaced by W. R.
Poore of Kitchener. Ray Van Dorsselaer,
of Dashwpod, once again was top winner
with his birds at the Welland District
Cage Society annual show, held rece*ly
in Beamsville. Out of 15 entries
birds walked off with 11 first prizes,
two seconds and two thirds: He was
so awarded 'four rosettes and two
trophies in the competition which saw
500' birds entered in the various classes.
The Blyth Standard relates that Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Walsh marked their
8th wedding anniversary in Clinton Hos-
ital as Mr. Walsh is a patient there.
Mr. and Mrs: John Young were honored
by their family on the occasion of their
44th wedding anniversary.
Leading the Lucknow Fall Fair parade
on Saturday, according to the Lucknow
Sentinel, will be Miss Dominion of Canada,
the 19 year-old Miss Norma Hickey who
hails from Darnley, Prince Edward Is-
land. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Salkeld
observed their 50th wedding anniversary
recently at a family dinner. The family
Of Dan T. MacKinnon held "Open House"
at his Kinloss farm home recently in
honor of his 90th birthday.(Lee Hee's
note - Mr. MacKinnon's mother was a
sister of the late Angus MacKinnon of
Tuckersmith).
The Milverton Sun repdrts that Bill
Hartsburg, Manager - of the Milverton
Junior C's indicates plans are under-
way for another big hockey season.
Practice will begin October 10th. Mr.
and Mrs. John S. Winterburn, formerly
of Norwich, now residents of Wooding-
ford Lodge, Woodstock, will mark their
64th wedding anniversary on Saturday.'
The Perth Regiment held their annual
reunion in Stratford during the past week
end. Members of the Kaajaef ski family
have ended a 14-year career. The last
of the 'teenagers, who delivered a daily.
paper to homes in Milverton, are at-
tending school in Stratford and thus 14
years of service has ended. Mr. and
Mrs. Glen Riddel lidnored Mrs. Earl
Edwardt on the occasion of her 85th
birthday. Mr. Riddel is a grandson of
Mrs. Edwards. •
A story in the St. Marys Journal
Argus indicates' that there is a pos-
sibility, if enough swimmers show up
at a meeting .called for the Cadz ow
Park Recreation Centre, arrangements
will be completed for a 'resumption of
the winter swim program at •the Strat-
'ford 'Y' pool. Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Thornton and family, of Kintore, held
"Open House" Sunday in honor of their
,ainele, Mr. Fred Thornton, _en: the oc-
casion of his 90th birthday. Jai, Sid,'
zer, Lethbridge, Alberta, visited his
sister, Mrs. Albert Bickel]. in Kirk-
ton, after 51 years. A daughter, Mrs.
Roy McNaughton of North Bay attended
the reunion. Mr. Switzer paid his last
visit to Kirkton in 1919 when he returned
from World War 1 where he saw service
in the Royal Canadian Artillery. The

The Kincardine News reports that the
Kincardine ToSin and Township Airport
will be officially opened on Sunday with
the ribbon cutting taking place at 1:30
p.m. An air show will follow at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Max Bell of R.R.1, Gorrie, had
her arms full when she held in her arms
a giant puffball that was discovered by
her children in a pasture near their
home. The' Wipgham Advance-Times
reporting the find stated the puffball
measured sig feet in circumference, but
did not know exactly how much it weighed.
The Clinton News-Record reports that
Wayne McFaddin, a 24-year-old native of
Orillia has been hired to replace Con-
stable Albert Shaddick who resigned be-
cause of personal reasons. Mr. McFaddin
was one of 12 applicants. Mrs. M. W.
Durst, Clinton, was elected as president
of the Huron Unit of the Canadian Cancer
Society. Board Chairman of Clinton Pub-
lic Hospital, J. W. Counter, has announced
plans for a $40,000 addition to the south
portion of the wing built in 1947.
According to the Mitchell Advocate
the town council accepted the resignation
of the Chief of Police, E. B. McCulligh.
Mr. and Mrs. Friedrich Hinz of R.R. 5,
Mitchell, celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary. The couple were driven to
church in a 1926 Model 'T' decorated
with gold paper flowers and streamers,
where Rev. Harold Patzer conducted a
short devotional service, after which a
delicious turkey dinner was. served by
the Ladies' 'Aid in the church basement.
E. C. Roger, formerly of the Fullerton
community, marked his eightieth birth-
day at a family gathering at his home in
Atwood.
Greene's Variety Store on Main Street,
Exeter, was robbed of• $100 on Friday
according to the Exeter Times-Advocate.
The theft took place around noon hour.
Pollee Chief Ted Day calls this type of
theft "noon hour scooping". Two or
three persons enter a store when part of
the staff is out to lunch. While two keep
the remaining staff busy, the third person
does the lifting. Chief Day warns mer-
chants to be on the look-out for this type
of offence as they are •professionals.
Call the police if suspicious or follow them
and get the car license number. The
Lucan-Ilderton Jets are already practic-
ing to defend their Ontario Association
Intermediate "B" Chainpionship. An
organizational meeting of the Exeter
Shamrock minor hockey league is being
held on Sunday.
The Goderich Signal-Star reports that
at a meeting last Thursday evening, Goder-
ich Town Council approved a' by-law to
issue debentures in the amount of $175,000
for renovations to the Goderich Memorial
Arena.. The Ladies Auxiliary to the
' RORY-Canadian Legion Branch 109 presen-
ted a cheque for $1,000 to the Goderich
Recreation and Community Centre Board
as a donation toward the cost of renovat-
ions at Goderich Memorial Arena.
Bruce R. Heath, 31, the local director of
the Huron County Children's Aid Society
officially took sover the post from Miss
Clare McGowan' recently. Enrolled in
Goderich schools are eight sets of twins,,
and one set of triplets.

The first meeting of the
• Brucefield 11 4-H -Club was held
at the home of the leader, Mrs.
George Cantelon.
The meeting began' with the
election of officers for the com-
ing year. The results were:
President - Betty Taylor, Vice-
* President, Diane Anderson, Sec-
retary and Press Reporter,Faye
Cantelon. Eleven members were
present at the meeting.
pamphlets were handed out
followed by discussions about
book covers, a club name and
a hike prior to the next meeting.
Mrs. Cantelon led a discus-
sion on Mental Health. The
assistant leader, MrS. Audrey
Coleman demonstrated several
crafts and the girls each did a
sample of 'huck weaving.
The second meeting of the
' club was held at the home of
Mrs. Emerson Coleman following
an enjoyable nature hike: The
meeting was opened with the 4-H
pledge, the roll call and the
secretary's report.
It,was decided that the name
of the club would be "The Happy
Healthy Hikers". A discussion
on the topic "Making Leisure,a
Pleasure" was led by Mrs.• C ole-
m aft.
Afterwards the group listened
to some broadway records
"Music for Appreciation" and
spent some time learning to knit.
The busy afternoon concluded
with a wiener roast.

from Ruth Rebekah Lodge, Strat-
ford, inviting members to a Perth
Rally Day for Oddfellows and
Rebekahs in Stratford on Novem-
ber 21, in Northwestern Second-
ary School.
Members were also notified
that Fidelity Lodge I.O.O.F.,' is
to mark it's 100th anniversary
sin October 24th with a banquet
in the Legion Hall, to be fol-
lowed by a program and special
speakers.
Mrs. Gerald -McFalls,Exeter,
District Deputy President for
Huron, and staff' will install of-
ficers here on October 26th.

sembly of Ontario, Miss Audrey
Miller, of Ottawa, plans to visit
Huron District in early Nov-
ember. In her honor Pride of
Huron Lodge,Exeter, 'plans a
banquet to b followed by a
special lodge meeting at which
the various lodges of the district
are asked to assist when the
initiatory degree is to be con- •
ferred.
Miss Miller has also asked
that all lodges in Ontario con-
tribute to the Sudbury disaster

Several local, wom en's organ-
izations are to be asked to assist
the Rebekah Lodge in the annual
campaign for the Rehabilitation
Foundation (March of Dimes).

sessions held last June in Toronto
were given by Miss Eleanor
Henderson and Mrs. Gordan Pap-
ple.
A euchre party is planned to
follow the next regular meeting.

SEAFORTH 4-H - No. 3
The Seaforth 4-H Club No.
3 held their first meeting at
the home of one of their leaders,
Mrs. J. Patterson. The teem-
bers were acquainted with some
of the projects in 'their new
club "Focus on Fitness". An
election of officers was also
held. Mrs. Patterson was thanked
for the use of her home by
Janice Schenck,
BRUCEFIELD 11 4-H CLUB
"Keeping Physically Fit" was
the topic for the third meeting of
the "Happy Healthy Hikers" held
at Mrs. Gee,. Cantelon's house.
On Friday, September 11, 1970 Denise Yvette Lauder,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murray James Lauder, ILR.#3,
Claremont, Ontari o, was united in marriage to Mr. James
Harry. Stephenson, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Stephenson,
Seaforth, Ontario. The ceremony was performed by Rev.
J. C. Britton at the Northside United Church Manse. The
couple will reside in Richmond Hill where the groom is
employed with the Toronto Dominion Bank.
