St. Columban came up with a
• strong scoring attack as they
downed London Yugoslav Cana-
dians 5 - 2 in a London and
District Soccer League game
played • in Seaforth on Saturday.
By virtue of the win, St.
Columban 'are now all alone in
first place with a record of
10 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie, for
21 points. London Scottish have
19 points and London Roma have
18., St. Columban have 5 league
games remaining and nextSatur-
day will be one of the most
important games when they will
play London Scottish in London.
The game was just five min-
utes old when the Yugoslays, with
a fine series of passes, worked
the ball into the St. Columban
end and scored from directly in
front of the St. Columban goal
with goalie Paul O'Reilly having
no chance on the play. St. Col-
* umban came right back five
utes later when Paul Malone
passed the ball to Gerald Ryan
but his hard low shot was blocked
at the right corner by the
Yugoslav goalie. The ball bounced
across the goal-mouth and
George Love fired the ball into
• the open side of the Yugoslav
net to make it 1-1. The remainder
of the first half saw scoring
chances at both ends buCthe
half ended in a tie.
St. Columban came on strong
in the second half and moved
ahead 2-1 when Gerald Ryan

Under the direction of Mr.
Johnston and Mr. Ed. Feiss,
this year's soccer team is well
on" its way-to success. The boys
have been out practising hard and
getting in shape after school. The
members of "the team will be
, chosen some time in the near
future arid: the boys will begin

time during the Summer.
Classes have commenced'
once more and the rooms at
SDHS are full of busy students
and teachers. The days of swim-
ming and sunning are over. The
coming weeks will be spent at-
tending classes, doing lessons
and studying. Alarm clocks have
been take n out of storage as
symbols of the routine which will
again have to be followed. The
'educating process is again in
progress.
Several changes ,have taken
place this year at SDHS. Five
classes of new grade nine stud-
ents have joined our "happy
throng", and are already quite
well orientated. Some new rules
have been set doWn by the ad-
ministration. Unlike last year's
system, attendance for all senior
students will be checked morning
and afternoon, and there will be
no more legal class-skipping.
This has made quite a difference
to many a student who had grown
accustomed to the idea that his
time was his own to spend in
Whatever ways seemed most
beneficial and/or enjoyable' to
him. However, ,almost all
students have noWadjusted to the
idea that school is school, and
classes are to be attended.
Restrictions have been placed
on admittance to the school li-
brary during the day, and no one
is allowed to loiter in the halls
or washrooms at any time.
Rr)has it that a punch clock
maven he placed in each' of
the washrooms.
Apart from these few new
and somewhat binding Niles, the
system remains the same as it
has been in previous years. Sea-

Last year, the nine club was
one of the school's most suc-

tions, and promises to be bigger
and better than ever this year.

High School football starts today with a home
game at 2:30 in which the Golden Bears take on
the - perennially strong Goderich team. The public
is invited to attend the games played at Seaforth

The girls basketball schedule will be 'played
this fall rather than in the winter so the girls
will have some fall ' athletic activity. Volleyball
will take up the winter months.
On the National scene it looks like Montreal
might take the Eastern CFL title if their win
over the Argos on Sunday is any indication. BY
the' looks of it, Montreal is the better team.
The Americas Cup Yachting series is turning
into a farce with a series of sour grapes protests
issuing from both the American and Australian
entries. The incident Monday after which the
Australians win was taken away and awarded to the
Americana. even had all the attributes for a minor
international incident. Questions about the race
were raised in. the Australian House of Commons
and the government sent the crew of the Australian
boat a telegram of encouragement. It's amazing
what whole countries will argue about these days.
- The local sports scene has been quiet this
week with only one game in the Indtistrial League
to report. If the series goes five games the
final' one Sunday afternoon should be very good
and provide excellent entertainment for the leagues
growing numbers of follower.
