Mr. and Mrs. O'Rourke were married 35 years ago at St. Columban Church, St. Columban, by the late Father Dantzer. Mrs. O'Rourke was the former Helen Murray, daughter of the late John and Louise Murray. Mr. and Mrs. O'Rourke have three daughters, Mrs. Don (Eileen) Muegge, Walkerton;Mrs. James (Louise) Sloan, Jr., R.R. 5, Seaforth; and Mrs. Ed (marg- •aret) Rowland, Dublin. They also have six grand- children. GIRL'S EXHIBITION SOFTBALL In an exhibition softball game between the Brodhagen Juvenile team and the Dublin Juvenile team Sunday afternoon the weather was cold and damp but this did not hamper the Dub- lin girls as they defeated the 13roahagen team 26 , to 1'7 in a • seven Inning gam This is, the first time the Dublin girls have engaged in playing against another team which plays • in a league and to all those watching it looked spectacular. The girls were well matched with the age limit set at 15 and under. Miss Jo-Anne Goettler has returned to Cannon University in Ottawa for her second term. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ben, Toronto were visiting with Mrs Frank Evans last week. Mr. and Mrs. Glen' Butters and family, Hespeler, were Visit- in'.; with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Whetham and family on the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Don Klinkham- mer and son, Kitchener and Mr.' and Mrs. ClaYton"Hill, Chicago, were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Martin Klinkhammer on the week end. Mrs. Jelin E. Murray has returned from Westbroake after spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Butters and family, Ken McKellar. Mrs. Grace Scott is a patient in Seaforth Community Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Steele of St. Catharines visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Will. Miller. Many people from this area attended the official opening of the Upper Thames Elementary School in Mitchell on Monday, night. An Interdenonilnational Ser- vice was held in the Township shed at Staffa. on Sunday. Rev. W. Jarvis of Cromarty was the speaker for the service. The'" singing was led by a choir cm- posed of ingers from the sur- rounding churches. WINCHELSEA Correspondent Mrs. Wm. Walters Mr. and Mrs. George Frayne visited on Wednesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Patterson, Leslie and Linda of Lucan. Miss Janet Hern of London and Brian Hern of Stratford, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hern and boys. Mrs. Gerry Grubbe and boys of Farquhar visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Horne. Mrs. John Coward visited last week in. Kirkton with Mr. and Mrse Hiram Hannah. Mr. Ray Clarke of. St. Marys visited with Mrs. Wm. Walters on Monday. Miss Trudy Van Drunen gave an interesting and informative talk on Holland, where she visited during the summer. She was introduced by Mrs. Francis Hick- nel,l and thanked and presented with a gift by Mrs. Tom Kale. The meeting was the first of the Autumn season, and was opened by the President, Mrs. Raymond Murray. The secretary, Mrs. Hicknell, read the minutes. The corresponding secretary,' Mrs. Edward McGrath read a letter of thanks from Rev. Father Moylan. The treasurer, Mrs. Janes Sloan, Jr. gave the fin- ancial report. • Caring for the altars for Sept- ember are Mrs. John Shea and Mrs. Tom Murray. Mrs. Frank Murray was appointed to visit the sick. After discussion, it was de- cided to rent the dishes from the hall to anyone needing them. The mystery prize dorfated by Mrs. Matt , Claessens was won by Mrs. Dominic Murray. their first 4-H meeting of their new project "Working with Wool" at the home of their assistant leader Mrs. C. Douglas. Misses Carol Glan- ville and Darlene Templeman are attending the University of Waterloo. • Bill Worden has returned to classes at Waterloo Lutheran. Miss Eleanor Kemp is attend- ing teacher's college at Strat- ford, • Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Gruhl, Fullerton visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Wolfe. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Leon- hardt visited with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Rose, Sarnia recently. Cathy Leonhardt, daughter cite., Mr. and Mrs. Ross Leonhardt participated with her horses at' the horse show, winning ,several prizes at the London Fair this weekend. Young people frOrn this area have left to further their study towards a career. Bonnie Hoegy is in London studying at the 41 Victoria Hospital for a Labora- tory Technician; Phyllis Ahrens is studying at Fanshaw College; Richard Leonhardt and Maynard/ Hoegy are studying at Waterloo Lutheran university. SE AFORTH THE HAPPY CITIZENS The Happy Citizens held their meeting and euchre Thursday afternoon in the Legion Hall with thirteen tables playing. Winner's were ladies high - Mrs. A. The roll call was answered by showing samples of" fabrics and naming them. Mrs. Batson discussed choosing a pat- tern and the girls took each others measurements. Mrs. Jeffery dis-. cussed choosing fabrics and why to line a skirt. Judy Jeffery dip- cussed pressing and the equip- ment needed. A further meeting was held at the home of the leader Mrs. ,Jeffery. When members ans- wered the roll call by telling why they chose the style of their skirt and named the weave of their fabric. Mrs. Jeffery dis- cussed altering. Rae Butson dem- onstrated .sing, a tracing Wheel and' paper. Mrs., Ross Balfour and Mrs. Johnny Miller entertained their ball team to a barbeque at the home of Mrs. Miller on Tues- day evening: Miss Julie Anne Elliott is patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mrs. Smith showed samples of wool and wool blends by using the burning and chemical. test method.. Mrs. Scherbarth talked on wool fab- rics. •• The project is working with wool and each girl has to make a wool skirt or jumper. The Wild Woolleys met again at the home of Mrs. Edward Scherbarth; Mrs. Smith dis- cussed chbosing patternS and how to take your measurements-, which was demonstrated by Janet Scherbarth and Joyce Vock.
