Hensall council property
committee reported at the Sept-
ember meeting of council that the
new fire hall is progressing fa-
vourably. Councillor Knight in-
formed council that the Industrial
committee may soon begin work-
ing again. He feels that a brief
should be made .,on design for
development but at the present he
is most concerned regarding
school taxation and the current
debates about payment of same.
He fears that if certain rate-
payers refuse to pay their taxes
for school purposes that the
average working man may end up
paying far more than he is now.
Councillor Knight feels that it
is time someone spoke up for the
"Other side".
E. R. Davis reported he had
used all the patching material
for the roads and thought a fair
job had been done . He had taken
away several loads of dirt from
behind the Town Hall and had
filled in some ditches with it. He
also reported that he and his
helper had repaired several
stretches of sidewalk and if coun-
cil wished' he would continue to
repair more sidewalk. Council
agreed to this suggestion. C. E.
Reid and Son are to repair two
catch basins in the near future
and Mr. Parsons had requested
that the dump be bulldozed. Mr.
Davis is to secure calcium chlo-
ride to apply to Oxford St. W. and
Elizabeth St. S. He said the
battery on the old tractor is not

The Department of Lands and
Forests must annually collect
sufficient quantities of seed of
the various species of Ontario
trees to maintain supplies used
by the nurseries to produce ap-
proximately 70,000,000 forest
tree seedlings each year for
reforestation.
This is a mammoth under-'
taking. It requires the assist-
ance of the entire field organ-
ization to ideate and estimate
the seed and cone crops, to
arrange for collections, storage
and handling of the seed and

cones and for final transporting
of them to the Ontario Tree
Seed Plant at Angus or one of
the nurseries.
The Department relies on the
assistance of the citizens of
Ontario because much of the
seed collection is done , by local
persons who obtain picking. con-
tracts. -In this way there is an
opportunity to help maintain and
expand Ontario's reforestation
program.
This year the Lake Huron
Forest District has targets to
collect cones of Red Pine, Tam-
arack and Norway Spruce and
seed of Red Oak and Black
.
The Division Offices ailles-
peler, (658-9356); Owen Sound
(376-3860). and Stratford (271-,
2890) expect to organize collec-
tion programs to obtain specific
quantities of cones and seeds.
Collection will be, by contract
only.
