wedding anniversary.
The door was attended by
granddaughters, Debbie Hall and
Mary Beth Rann. Callers were
welcomed by their daughter, Mrs.
Jane Hall, and signed the guest
register.
Mr. and Mrs. Rann, with Miss
Ann Geddes, bridesmaid of
40 years ago, received their
guests y in their beautiful new
home, bright with flowers and
cards of congratulations.
The 'tea table, laid with an
Italian cut-work cloth and silver
service,' was centred with a floral
arrangement of roses and mums.
Mrs. Ralph Pearson and Mrs.
Jack Bryans presided at the tea
table during the afternoon and
Mrs.' Clair Long, Mrs. Robert
Gemmell, Mrs. Roy Cousins and
Mrs. Cecil Parker served. In
the evening Mrs. May Bryans

The Wingham Advance-Times, reports
that some eleven television sets were
stolen from the new Firestone Store re-
cently before it has beenofficially opened.
The sets are valued at about $4,300.
Nineteen year-old Phyllis McKague of
R.R. 2, Wingham has gained the right
to compete in the semi-finals of the
Ontario Dairy Princess competition at the
Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.
She will represent Huron County. Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Higgins of Belgrave cele-
brated their 55th wedding anniversary with
a family dinner on Sunday. There are nine
grandchildren and three great-grand-
children. Mayor DeWitt Miller at the
September meeting of council stated he had
been approached by one of the doctors in
town and referred to the growing inciden-
ces of drug cases. The mayor said he
hoped to set up a suggested meeting within
the next week.
The importance of the swim program
in St. Marys and area recreation was
pointed out by the Journal-Argus when
over a thousand swimmers and parents
attended the swimming and playground
Achievement and Awards presentations at
the Collegiate Auditorium. Guest speaker
for the occasion was Paul McPherson,
Red Cross, London.
In scanning the Milverton Sun we note
that former area residents, Mr. and Mrs.
Julius Scholl' of Stratford, celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary on Sunday with an
%open house at' their home. The Milverton
Winstonettes ladies' fast ball team, com-
peting in the provincial playdowns against
Ottawa won their first game Sunday with
a 2 - 0 victory. Over 700 attended the
game. Elmer Holl, Wellesley, and Elmer
Baler, Millbank, captured the Fred Har-
burn Trophy of the Ontario Horseshoe
Matched . Doubles Open, Saturday; at the
Linwood Rod and Gun Club. The top 48
players in Ontario will compete at the
invitational event at Western Fair, London.
The Kincardine News reports that Mr.
and Mrs. Wallace Blakely marked their
sixty-fifth wedding anniversary. Mr.
Blakely marked his ninetieth birthday in
April. Mrs. David Wittig celebrated her
ninety-eighth birthday, Thursday, Septem-
ber 3rd.
We note in the Blyth Standard that Mr.
Ed. Davies of Auburn, was announced the
'Senior Champion of Canada when he com-
peted at the Canadian Horse Shoe Assoc-
iation annual competition in Manitoba last
week. One hundred and eighteen contest-
ants from every proVince in Canada took
part in the three day event.
Dan Dalton, son of Ray Dalton of Ash-
field will teach at Moose Factory, Ontario.
He will teach Guidance in a. Public School
which will have a 75% enrollment of Cree
Indians, according to the Lucknow Sentinel..
We also note in the same paper that Tees-
water Creamery Limited has purchased
the Kincardine Creamery Limited. There
were 210 entriesat the Ripley Flower Show.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Swan marked their 40th
wedding anniversary. Mrs. Harriet Wilson
of 1.,ucknow was honored on the occasion
of her 85th birthday.
In scanning the Zurich Citizens<N ews
we see that Sgt. George Miller, in crge
of the 25 man Ontario Provincial Police
Detachment at Grand Bend for the summer
months has been transferred to head the
31 men at' Forest.
The Exeter Times-Advocate reports
that Paul Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Cecil Wilson, Exeter, has returned to
Czechoslovakia. He is a teacher and has
been living there the past three years.
The new fire hall in Hensall in well
underway. It will house the new fire
truck purchased this past summer. Bob
Sadler, Staffa, who served eleven years
as president of the Huron-Perth base-
ball league was honored at a League
banquet in Dashwood when he was pre-
sented with a pen and pencil set. The
new president Bob Frier, Mitchell, made
the presentation, assisted by Glenn Webb,
Dashwood, the vice-president. •1
According to the Clinton News-Record,
;G. J. Graham, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Graham, Clinton, has graduated
from the Provincial Police College, Tor-
onto, and has been posted to Downsview
Detachment, No. 5 District.
In the Goderich Signal-Star we note
that Mr. r‘ind Mrs. William James Taman
of R.R.6, Goderich, celebrated their
Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday at
a family dinner party and• evening re-
ception for friends. When G.D.C.I.foot-
ball coach, Wayne Horner, called out his
"team for the first practice of the year
Monday night, he told the boys they must
have their hair cut short. "Sideburns no
longer than mine," ordered the coach.
A 110-year-old landmark is being razed
in Goderich. The round house at the
CNR station, which was erected in 1860,
is now in the first stages of demolition.

A family dinner was held on
the preceding Sunday with guests
attending from London, Port
Credit, Cooksville, oronto,
Walkerton, Belgrave, Exeter and
Wingham.
SURPRISE PARTY
On the previous Tuesday
evening about 40 neighbours and
friends paid a surprise visit to
the Rann home where they held
a wine and cheese party. During
the evening the anniversary
couple were presented with a
