Safety in
Grain Bins
▪ With harvesting in full swing
there will be thousands of grain
bins• and driers being filled daily
and the need for safety will° be
. increased.
Hal Wright, Farm Safety.
Specialist, University of Guelph,
says that grain flowing down to
kka. bottom inloader acts like quick-
safid. Because of this the grain
bin and driers should be checked
to ensure no one is inside before
operations begin. •
If someone must enter the bin
during unloading he should have
a safety rope around his waist
and a second man holding the
rope from the outside.
rf the grain bridges it should
be broken to prevent the operator
from falling into the hollow under
the bridged grain.
Once grain starts to flow
under an operator, there is lit-
*le chance he Will get out alone
but will probably be sucked under
and suffocated.
