G. M. Fusee
Has 90th
Birthday
The Stratford Beacon Herald
in a recent issue tells of the
90th birthday of George M. Fusee
for many years closely assoc-
iated with a Seaforth industry.
Mr. Fusee was sales manager
for many years of thA Robert
Bell Engine and Thresher Co.
Ltd. and when that company was
purchased by RobertBell Indus-
tries Ltd. in 1949 he assumed
increased responsibilities until
his retirement. .
The Beacon Herald in it's
story said;
"He has a keen memory for
dates, does all his own house-
work and just had his driver's
licence renewed.
For a man who will be 90
on Sunday, George -M. Fusee e
116 Charles St., seems not in the
least disposed to look his, age
or engage in the activity or non-
activity of a, man of his years.
The "nothing" which he said
he has been doing for the past
20 years since he retired as
manager of Bell Industries Ltd.,
Seaforth. in 1950, includes doing
all his own washing, ironing,
cleaning and cooking, mainaining
the lawn and gardens surround-
ing his home, visiting his, child-
ren and reading books, of
"Christian literature."
Born in Dundas County, near
Morrisburg; Aug. 23, 1880, Mr.
Fusee said he lived on a farm
until the age of 18 and trained
in the cheese and butter trade.
Eleven years later,. he
switched to the machine business
and Spent more than 30 years
on the road as a salesman.
In 1901, Mr. Fusee married
Lucinda Jackson.. The couple
had six daughters and two sons.
Mrs. Fusee died in 1966.
Mr. Fuiee and his family,
including 21 grandchildren and 23
great-grandchildren, will cele-
brate his birthday in the Lauren-
tian Mountains at his son's resi-
dence near St. Donat, Que.
Mr. Fusee has daughters in
Nigeria, Washington D.C., Rich-
mond Hill and the Stratford area
and sons in New York and Scar-
borough.
He Said he has been asked
.to live with members of his
family but prefers to live alone
in his own home.
Mr. Fusee said he never had
much time for 'recreation and
sptirts in his younger days be-
cause he was working most of
the- time to support his wife and
family.
In 1917, he bought his first
car, a model T Ford for $500..
He said he recalls when he could
buy a good suit of clothes for
$10 and a pair of shoes for $1.25.
He received a congratulatory
plaque from Premier John Ro-
barts' office and letters from
MPP- Hugh Edighoffer and MP
J. Waldo Monteith „wishing him
a happy 90th birthday."
