Housewives of the Seaforth
Ladies Industrial Softball League
by a 43-20 adore in an exhibit-
• ion game played at the Lions
Park, last Thursday evening.
The local ladies proved no
match for the more experienced
Stratford team, however provida
:ed good entertainment for the
large crowd attending,
The Housewives most produc-
tive inning was the seventh when
8 rung crossed the plate. How-
ever, the Misfits also scored 8
'runs in the seventh to equalize
the scoreboard. ,
The local'. Housewives team
was composed of Sandra Cole-

St. Columban Top
THE
The Firemen obtained first
place and won the Industrial
• League pennant by edging the
Genesco team Monday evening
while the fourth place Mechanics
Upset the teachers to knock them
back to Second.
The Smoke Eater's playing at
the recreation grounds handed
Genesco it s tenth straight defeat
• by an 8 -. 4 score. The shoe-
makers Just couldn't manage the
stronger Firemen but put up a
tremendous fight and should be
even stronger in the playoffs.
'Meanwhile at' the Public School
diathond the Mechanics nipped the
high flying Teachers by a 5 - 3

score in a very close game. The
win kept the Mechanics in fourth
place and knocked the Teachers
out of first. ' In the other league
game played at the Lions Park
the 'Mainstreet played one of
their better games and whipped
the Legion by a 15 - 1 score.
• This proved to be a nothing game
as the Legion had already clin-
ched ' third place and the
Mechanics won so the Main-
streeters remain in fifth position.
The playoffs now will see
the 1st and 4th teams meet and
the 2nd and 5th and 3rd and 6th.
In the Playoffs the teams will
play a double header at the Lions
Park and a single game at the ,
recreation grounds. Tne first
Playoff game will be Monday,
August' 31st and will see the
Teachers and Mainstreet meet
, at '7:00 p.m. at the Lions park
followed by the Firemen and the
Mechanics at 9:00 p.m.., while
the . Legion takes Genesco at the
recreation grounds at 7;03 p.m.
The series will be the best two
out of three. •
The second games of each
series will be played Thursday,
September 3rd at the same
places.

Girls Finish'
Schedule
The Hippy Housewives con-
tinued their winning ways by
edging the Bare Ones 20-21 hi a
Ladies Industrial League game
played at the Public School dia-
mond Tuesday night.
The Bare Ones opened with
two quick runs in'their half of
the 1st inning but couldn't hold
the siuggingil ousewives as the
Housewives socred 10 runs in
their half of the first to lead
10-2 _after one inning. In the
second the Housewives again out-
scored the Bare Ones as they
added 5 more runs while the
Bare Ones scored only 4. The
third proved tio better for the
Bare Ones and after three innings
they trailed by a 20-9 score. The
fourth inning saw both teams
score 5 runs to make it a 25-14
ball game.
The Bare Ones rallied in the
top of the fifth but could mister
only 7 runs which wasn't enough
to overcome the big lead making
the final count 25-21.
The two teams will begin
their playoffs next Tuesday night
at the public School daim end with
the game getting underway at
7:00 p.m.
The Bare Ones hope to round
themselves into shape by playing
an exhibition game against the
Stratford Misfits at the Lions
Park tonight.

During the next game the
Dublin nine defeated the itaffa
girls by a- 15 - 12 scorer
scored early and took a quick
2 - Q lead and never relinquished
the lead as they held in the'latter
innings to post the win.

The Stalin team alio went
down to defeat against the hard
hitting South Hibbert team by' a,
29-16 score. South Hibbert built
up a quick lead and had a 11-5
margin after 3 innings. Staffa
couldn't muster a strong enough
attack to overcome the big lead
and never really threatened the
South Hibbert team. A big 9
bun rally in the final inning gave
the Staffa girls at least a res-
pectable score but was far short
of the necessary rues,

Croatia
St. Columban won their first
round game for theSchaeffer Cup
when they edged LondtanCroatia
2 - 1 in Seafortlion Saturday night.
Cup games are sudden death with
the winner advancing into the next
round and the loser being elimin-
ated. St. Columban will now meet
St. Thomas Kickers in the next
round in St. Thomas on Wednes-
day, August 26th.
The largek crowd of the
season was on hand as St. Colum-
ban came up with a powerful team
effort to down the strong Croatia
team. The game proved very
satisfying to the local squad es
Croatia had eliminated St.Colum-
ban in theist round for the Sinosic
Trophy.
Play was even throughout the
1st half with end to end Mites
by both teams. St. Columban
opened the scoring midway
through -the half when Gord Moy-
lan passed to Gerald Ryan who

To Finals
The Brucefield Bombers de-
,feated Mitchell last Wednesday
evening in Hensall by a score of
23-2. Sue McLeod and Joyce
Carter led the team with four
hits apiece, while Betty Dal-
rymple and •Sandra Graham each
had three; Lea de Jong, Joyce
Ferguson, and Marion McNutt
each had two hits while Janet
Graham and Marie MacDonald
had one apiece.
The Brucefield girls now meet
Shakespeare in the finals. The
first game is to be played on
Thursday evening at 8:30 at the
C, F,, B. Clinton diamond with the
second game at Shakespeare Fri-
day night.
George
Love
George -plays inside
right in his first year
with St. Columban. He
has played four years
with Goderich of the
L.D.S.A. during which
time he scored 21 goals.
He also played for many
years in the Huron Lea-
gue. George attended
Seaforth District High
School and now lives at
H.R. 4, Walton.

Dave Malnally carried the ball
up the right side and passed
across field to Gerald Ryan.
His shot was stopped by the
Croatia goalie but the ball went
loose and Brian Malady shot it
into the London• net. The 2nd.
, half saw some very fine chances
at both ends.
St. Columban had tough luck
around the Croatia goal, tvace
when Tom Love broke into the
clear and again when George
Love fired a shot that hit the
top cross-bar. Crotia had their
best chances from two free kicks
near the St. Colurif)an 18 yard
line. One shot missed the goal
and Paul O'Reilly made a fine
save on the other as score ended

The next St. Columban game
will be here on Saturday, August ,
29th when London Rom , will be
the opposition. Kick-off will be
6;00 p.m„ at the Seaforth District
High School field.

Lose Two
Staffa Girls Softball Team
played Dublin Girls to a 17-17
tie and then dropped a 15-12
decision to the same team in
games played in the North Hib-
bert Ladies Spitball League.
In the tie game 'Dublin opened
the first inning with 3 runs while
holding the Staffa girls to 2. The
second Inning . saw Dublin add
. another run while holding Staffa
scoreless to make it a 4-2 ball
after two innings. Dublin again
outscored Staffa in the third and
led 8 - 4 after three innings.In
the fourth Staffa rallied for 5
' runs while Dablin failed to score•
to give Staffa a 9 - 8 lead after
four complete innings. In the
fifth Staffa again outscored the
Dublin nine to take a 13 10
lead after five innings. The_
final inning saw Dublin score 7
runs to Staffa's 4 to make the
final score 17-17.
