PEPPER Was Reeve In Stanley A former reeve of Stanley and for many years, active in the affairs of the McKillop Mut- ual Fire Insurance Company,Jcihil E. Pepper died in Clinton Public Hospital on Thursday following a short illness. He was 89. Despite his yea rs he had been in good health an d continued to take an active interest in the community he had served so long. He was the son of Roger and Mary Pepper and was born in Tuckersmith Township on August 5, 1880. On December 25th, 1904 he was married to Annie Carter, who' predeceased him. Following their marriage the couple farmed in Tuckersmith and Stanley Townships later re- tiring to (,:linton. Mr. Pepper served on the board of the Mc- Killop. Fl re Insurance Company for a nuunber of years and was a membor of the School Board of S.S.1'to.10 Stanley. He was a former Reeve and member of Stanley Township council. He was a member of Brucefield United (Church. He is survived by four child- ren - Mrs. Frank-(Vera) Mc- Gregor, Clinton; Mrs. John (Cleta.) McGregor, R.R.#5, Clin- ton, Ray of Varna and Randal of T'nunder Bay. -A son, Lorne, predeceased him. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eleNien great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Howard Crich, Clinton and two brothers, Fred Pepper and Roy Pepperci, both of • 0:Linton. His body rested at the Ball runetal Home, Clinton until July '25th when interment was made in Baird's Cemetery. Rev. E. Stuart officiated. The pall- bearers were Robert McGregor, Acton; Wm. McGregor, R.R.#5, ARTHUR C. ROUTLEDGE Long Time Merchant Arthur Charles Routledge, 83, of Egmondville, died in Seaforth Community Hospital, Saturday. While he had been in poor health for several years, his passing came suddenly. He was born in Tuckersmith. Township, a son of the late Mr.. and Mrs. Charles ROutledge of Egmondville. He was married in Bruce- field in September, 1915, to the former Marion Wilson, who sur- vives. Also surviving are one brother, Roy, and two sisters, Mrs. James (Minnie) McQuire and Mrs. James (Harriet) Grieve, all of North Dakota. A long time business man in Egmondville and Seaforth, he operated a grocery store in Sea- forth for 24 years. He was a mem- ber and elder of Egmondville United Church and was superin- tendent of the Sunday School for 35 years. The body was at the G. A. Whitney Funeral Home, Seaforth, where services were held at - 2 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by his minister, Rev. T. E. Hancock. Intermet followed in Maitland- bank cemetery, Seaforth. Pallbe arers were Cliff Broadfoot, Thomas -Hamilton, Stewart Dolmage, Kenneth Beattie, Wm. Routledge and Clarence Routledge. Flower- bearers were W.D.Wilson, Ross McClure, William Pepper, Mur- ray McLeod, Gordon McGonigle - and Robert McGregor. MRS. T. G. BUTTERS Mrs. Thomas G. Butters, 63, Dublin, died Monday in Seaforth community Hospital. She was the former Elizabeth C. Hicknell, daughter •of the late Mr. and Mrs. Augusta Hicknell of McKillop Township. Educated its McKillop Township, she gradua- ted from Seaforth Collegiate In- stitute. For a number oryears she served as a telephone operator. She was married in Dublin in 1921 to Thomas G. Butters, who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Morris, Mrs. Donald (Betty Ann) Coyne, both of COndon; sons, Ronald .J, of St. Thomas; Gordon E., Toronto, Al-. Ian T. of Hainilton; William D. of Stratford; Glenn J. of Hespeler; sister, Mrs. Joseph (Sarah) Mat- thetas, Seaforth; brothers, Peter and. Augusta, Kitchener, Leo, Kirkland Lake. She is also sur- vived by 15 grandchildren. Mrs. Butters was a member of the Catholic Women's League," the Women's Institute and the Cancer Society in the Dublin area. Shirley and Doris McClure and Sharon Thompson favored with a song accompanied by El- aine McClure. Joan Thompson and Kathy Dalton played a duet on the piano. Mrs. Eric Ander- son conducted three games of bingo. Betty, her mother, Mrs. George Hoggart and Jane Hog- gart were seated in decorated chairs and Blanche Dalton read the address after which Betty received many useful gifts. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Arend Bakker of Monkton and an uncle and aunt of Mrs. Hoggart's of Hol- land visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Hciggart, Connie t and Larry. s Mr. and Mrs.Frank Riley are spending holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Woods, Debbie and Michele at their cottage. Mr. and mrs. Jim Preszca- tor, Billy and Debbie spent the week end , camping at Kincardine and also visited with Mr. and • Mrs. Ron Preszcator, Rhonda, Ricky, Denise and Danny. Brenda and John Dawson of Varna spent the week end with their grandmother, • Mrs. Ella. Jewitt and boys. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hart of Goderich, Mr. and Mrs.George Hart of Brussels, Mr. Joe Hart -and Don of Holmesyille were Saturday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs. ,Fred Buchanan and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jamiekon and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson and family spent Sun- '.day at the Falls Reserve near Goderich. Mr. and Mr's. Harry Boag of New Market visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Medd, Dave, Jim and Kerri. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Dublin, conducted by Father R. J. Durand. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were William Hart, Joseph O'Reilly, Francis Hicknell, Martin Klinkhammer and Robert C ronin.
