Logs from
the Past
Taken at the height of con-
struction in late suinmer 1969,
the picture shows logs which
contractors unearthed from the
original. road bed. The logs,
buried for more than 100 years,
were in. excellent condition. Con-
tinuing dry weather throughout
the summer assisted work with
the result that traffic returned to
Main Street after the least pos-
sible.delay,
Graduates from. Seatorth
tact High School year by year
have enjoyed successful careers
as they continue their education
at universities.
Not often, however, does the
university comment on the job
being done by the students and,
as a result, the standing attained
by Seaforth graduates has gone
unrecognized.
One university, at least, is
making an effort to correct this
omission. In a letter to S.D,H.S.
principal, L. P. Plumsteel, the
University of Watery* says:
A few weeks ago we faced the
task of reviewing the Freshman
results in the Faculty of Mathe-
matics for those students ending
the year in May. As usual, and
this seems to be a common
failing, we tended to ,spend too
much time considering the bor-
derline and tailing students and
not enough time enjoying the re-
cords of our good students. For
this reason we have recently been
taking another look at those stu-
dents who ended the ' year with -
first class standing and we are
contacting their high schools to
let them know of their students'
fine accomplishment.
"Our first class records in-
clude the following: Bryan
Hodgert - 87.7%.
"It is sometimes difficult
these days, mainly, because of
social problems I think, for stu-
dents to do well academically in
their Freshman year, and we all
realize that Mathematics pro-
grammes at any university are
fairly demanding. For these rea-
sons we are quite happy with
Bryan's accomplishment and we
hope that this record will be
maintained throughout his stay
with us.
"Thank you very much ror
your co-operation in the past and
particularly for sending this fine
student to us,"

The reconstruction of the connecting link of Huron
County Road No. 12 through Seaforth and Egmondville and
the replacement of Silver Creek bridge on HighwayNo. 8
east of Seaforth at a cost to the Government of Ontario
of more than $500,000, * again demonstrates the concern
of the Department of Highways for road requirements of
all kinds throughout the Province and its increasing
endeavours to meet these neeas,: In line with the De-
partment's "total roads concept", the Highways Depart-
ment - through its Development, Road -program - \extends
direct aid up to 100 per cePt basis to townships and
counties for the,. reconstruction of, sections of, road
where such aid is warranted.
This road improvement, which has been completed, will
mean much to Seaforth' and the surrounding dittrict,
whose economic progress depend to SO. large a decree on
an up-to-date network of eterial roads a.Dd highways.
