Game
St. Columban lost their first
game of the year when they drop-
ped a 3-1 verdict to Roma FC in
a London & District Soccer game
played In London on Saturday.
• Roma won the toss and elected to
play with the wind in the 1st half.
• The St, Columban defence was
under constant pressure from the
opening -whistle. About the 20
minute mark a penalty shot Was
called on St. Columlian and Roma
forward Danny Pepe scored into
the 'bottom right corner of the
net. Roma continued to press and
made it 2-0 ten minutes later
from a corner kicic in the St.
Columban end. The ball was
centred to the 18 yard line from
where a Roma players' shot was
deflected by a St. Columban de-
fender and eluded goalie Pau10'-
,_ Reilly. Remit were awarded
another penalty shot a few
minutes later but this time the
shot went over the goal. With
5 minutes left in the 1st half
St. Columban fullback, Brian
Melady was dumped by a 'Roma
player and the ball hit his arm
as. he fell, resulting in another
41 penalty shot. This time the ball
was shot Just inside the right
goal-post to make it 3-0 at half
time. In the 2nd. half St. Colum-
ban pressed to the attack with
the wind in their favonr. Many
fine scoring chances were
stopped by the Roma defence but
• St. Columban finally scored mid-
way through the half from a
corner kick. Gord Moylan drop-
ped a perfect shot in front of
the goal that George Love de-
flected into the top left corner of
the net off a Roma player. St.
• Columban continued to carry the
play but were unable to add to
their total with many shotsestop-
ped by the Roma• goalie at the
last second and other shots that
were Just a little oft:
St. Columban will play in
London on Saturday, July 4th in
the 1st round for the Sinosic Mem- ' oriel Trophy., The opposition in
this game will be London Croatia
who are currently in a battle with
London Celtic for 1st place in
the Eastern Section of the L'& D
Second Division. The next St.
Columbaii home game will be
Saturday, July 11th when Sarnia
Briarwood Rangers will'playhere
with kick-off at 6:00 p.m. at the
SeafOrth District High School
field.

More than 200 Seaforth children turned out to have their
bikes ' licensed and fitted with, reflective tape as Seaforth
Optimists and Police registered bicycleg Monday night, Of-
ficials were not prepared for such a large turnout and ran
out of licenses. More are on order and will be installed at

Free Christian Reformed Church
