Camporee Boys ,from area cub packs - 104 of them - had their first experience .with camping last week end when the Perth District held a Canaporee' at the' Family Paradise Camping Park near Walton., The boys, who range in age froth eight to eleveli, aa the 30 leaders who accompanied them, re- presented cub packs from Walton, Monkton, Cram- arty, Mitchell, Kirkton and TavistoCk. The boys arrived at the site early Saturday, and, after establishing their Campsites, spent the rest of the day playing baseball and soccer and swimming in the spring fed lake.at the park. In the evening they held a short ceremony in which, they presented a flag and flagpole to the Mott family who operate the park. This gesture was in appreciation of the free use of all"facilities which the Motts' extended to the cubs for the week end. The day closed with a •campfire and sing-song led by Ray Mott. Sunday the cubs were allowed to fish in the Well stocked fishing pond and twenty of them were rewarded ;with rainbow trout. After dinner 'on Sunday the boys were returned to, their homes. In a competition for best campsite, the Walton pack placed first and won a pennant. The boys from•Kirkton were second. District Commissioner L14d Cameron of Staffa explained that it was not normal procedure to allow cubs to camp under canvas but special permission was obtained from the Regional Headquarters for this occasion. He said that the boys made out very well and even did much of their own cooking. In the light of this success and with the blessing of their hosts, the district plans to make the Camporee an annual affair. Mr. Cameron said that it was an invaluable aid in training the boys to get along with 4" one another as well as to meet cubs from other packs in the area. The camp chief for the week end was Mr. Bill Leeming of R.R.#4, Walton. i.044140P. .014;41 ,<4 V,t1•• 'A.., • , 17, 4
