Challenge to Sense of Humor a. Not very often have the scrawls. on walls been used in a serious attempt to sell products or ideas. However, grafitti is very much a part of today's scene and, as, such,' is an important communica- tions medium. So, with this view in mind, an international graffiti con- test was launched by the Car Care' Council. The topic, naturally, is car care. The Council is priming the pump with -lines like "A worn out &Piller can give you a bad trip," "Stamp out smut — Change your Air Filter." Prizes, by some standards, may leave much to be de- sired. Nevertheless, they should appeal to graffiti fans who delight in being recog- nized for their ingenuity with ' words. First prize (of which there will be 50) is 1) a certificate (suitable for framing) with blue ribbon and 2) the glory of having your graffiti splashed on bumpers, bill- boards and service station windows throughout the country. Second prize (there will be 5,000 of these) is the same as the first-prize, but with a red ribbon., Honorable mentions will receive the same as the first prize winner, except that the ribbon will be white. Paper doesn't come cheap. • KEEP YOUR COOL When your car loses its cool, you're heading for trou- ble — and it may be expen- sive. Avoid trouble by making sure your car's fanbelt, radi- ator and hoses are good condition, and that coolant is always at the proper leyel. Let the "other guy" know which tray you plan to go, give him the "Mister; your engine is shot!" After hearing these dis- couraging words from your favorite mechanic, chances are your first impulse is to call the nearest scrap yard. But there's another poSsi- ble answer. And that's hav- ing a remanufactured engine installed. If your car's body and in- terior. are in poor condition, perhaps the junkyard is the proper resting place for the vehicle. But assuming your car is sound other than tie engine, you'll save by installi ing a remanufactured mill. According to Sears, one out 'of every nine vehicles in the nation is operating with re- manufactured engines. A remanufactured engine differs from an overhauled one by the fact that the cam- shaft and crankshaft in the former is remade. More than 250 new parts are replaced in the remanufacturing process. In addition it is customary to install new spark plugs, a new or rebuilt carburetor, new fuel pump, fresh hoses and belts as well as new fil- ters in the remanufacturing process. It is also important to have the radiator rodded. New or 'remanufactured parts fit so tightly that they put a spe- cial burden cm the water. pump to keep the engine cool, If the radiator is clogged through rust or corrosion, the engine may soon run hot.
