On Thursday evening,.July 3rd,. a
vory successful strawberry festival was
held at the Congregational church,
Turnbeery. Refreshments were served
from 7 to 8 °'block, and the fruit tieing
of prime quality; seemed much.appre-
ciated. A. meeting was afterwards
held, presided over by Mr. R. Currie,
of Wingiram. Speeches were deliver-
ed by Rev. Smith, of Wroxeter, Dr.
Macdonald, M. P., and the chairman.
Mr. Gracey wave hislinimitable read-
ings, and -Mr. T. J. Gibson, with Miss
Brown, organist, rendered a choice
!:election of songs ; the choir at in•
tervals contributed to the entertain-
ment of the evening. The proceeds,
which,amounted to the sum of $26.14,
were devoted to the repairs of the
church, which are now proceeding.—
Mr Thos Higgins and Mr Chrysler
have recently returned ffom a visit to
Michigan, They speak very favorably

On Solidity last, the members of
Court Whitechurch, Canadian Order
of TEote-ters, attended divine service
in the Presbyterian church. The
local Court was joined by a rare
number of Foresters from Wingham,
ldoiyrood, Teeswater, Lucknow, etc.
There were nearly one hundred in the
procession which marched from the

enthusiastically of the capabilities and

to the Ontario farmer. There are

anticipating better times in the future,
should hesitate to break off national
and social ties by quitting to pursue
