The Mitchell Advocate reports that
Albert Edward Johnson, the oldest resid-
ent at the McCormick Home in London,

enjoying good health for his years and it
took 'only one good blow to extinguish the

that W. E.. Gunn, president of the Ontario
Chaffiber of Commerce, was the guest
speaker at the annual urban-rural night
meeting. Stephen Township Council has
agreed to pay partial costs of firemen
who will be sent to a special fire fight-
g course being held in Clinton from
June 1 to 5.
'We see by the Lucknow Sentinel re-
port that Norm Siegrist, Lucknow, had
a visitor during the past week in the
person of his brother, William Siegrist.
It has been 40 years since they saw each
other. Norm runs a dry goods .business
in Lucknow while William has. a fruit
farming business at Penticton, B.C. Mr.
Larry Wallace, Ashfield Township,
marked his, 90th birthday recently. He
has spent most of, his life in the area.
The Brussels Post reports that the
Lions held their annual LAtlies' . Night
on Monday at which meeting Lion Max
Watts moved that zone chairman George
Mutter run for District Deputy Governor ,
of Zone 3N.
The Blyth Standard reports that quick
action, by Blyth Firemen and employees
of Howson and Howson Ltd Feed Mill
averted what certainly could have been
a major fire in the community last Wed-
nesday morning. It is believed that
during welding operations on Tuesday a
spark landed unnoticed in an alfalfa bin
and smouldered all night. When the source .
of smoke and fire smell was located, and
the bin • cleaned out it was discovered
that the fire had eaten it's way one inch
into the four-inch laminated walls of the
bin. Damage was estimated at about $200.
The Lions Club and Legion are asking'
all those who are interested in sport to
attend a meeting being planned for Blyth
and District, Wednesday, April 22, at ,

The newest member of the Exeter
detachment of the Ontario Provincial
Police, according to the Exeter Times-
Advocate, Bob' Whiteford, a native, of
Toronto. He 'began his duties last week
and brings the lOcal detachment 'staff
'strength to seven officers. A family dinner
was given at, the Dominion Hotel, Zurich,
to honor Mr. and Mrs. Roy McDonald on
the occasion of their 50th wedding anniver-
sary., Mrs. McDonald was the former Vera
First Church

Goderich, was the guest speaker.

Blanche Cann, daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Cann, daughter of the late
Mr. -and Mrs. Charles .Canp Exeter and
Mr. McDonald was the son of the late Mr.
and' Mrs. Donald McDonald of Chisel-
burst and Seaforth.- Mr. and Mrs. Mc-
Donald moved to Exeter in 1946 and then
to London in 1953 where they still reside.
Pauline Bell of "Holiday on, Ice" phoned
from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according
to the Advocate, on Sunday to say she
was taking a plane fOr Mexico where she
will skate for the 'next six.. weeks in
various cities down there. ' She will
return home in June to spend a holiday
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart
Bell and Troyann.
The Clinton News-Record reports
that Clinton Town Council voted a $300
grant to. the Huron Conservation Authority
at its regular meeting Mondy evening. At
the same meeting . a letter was received
'from D. J. Murphy, counsel for the Police
Association fn 'its negotiations, repeating
the Association's demands for salaries
of $7,000 for Sergeant, $5,800 for Con-
stable and $5.„500 for probationary con-
stable. The salaries are based on a 40-
hour week and overtime. Council voted
against the salary schedule: Over 1,100
paid customers attended the camping show
held last week end .at CFB, Clinton.
The Goderich Signal-Star reports that
Captain Ray Chambers of the Patterson
Line boat Lawrendoc, received the tra-
ditional top hat from Mayor Dr. G. F.
Mills, last' Thursday evening as captain
of the first boat to enter Goderich Har-
bour this season. The Goderich Recrea-
tion and Community Centre Board is
. calling a public meeting for April 28 to
discuss the needs of young people in the
town with regard to recreation. The
annual' Vimy banquet .of the Royal, Can-
adian Legion Branch 109 was held re-
cently at the. Goderich Legion Hall. The
most of us in the area are familiar with
the name Sky. Harbour - but that is not
all,' according to the Signal-Star,. it's a
name that's becoming more and more
familiar to young Canadian "Eskimos
anxious to acquire a pilot's license.There
are two young students there at present.
One is John Amagoolik, 22, from Resolute
Bay, the other is Sandy Gordon, 20,,who
comes- from Fort Chimo, in Northern
Quebec and has logged about 360 hours
flying time since he first started train-
ing at Sky Harbour for his private pilot's
license. They will soon have their com-
mercial pilot's license and will :then
concentrate their efforts on getting a
multi-engine aircraft certificate. Both
youths plan to return to their respective
communities and anticipate getting jobs as
bush pilots when they rialre—Sitn-eSsfillly
completed their commercial pilot's train-
- ing course.
A brief item in the St. Marys Journal-
Argus outlines the fact the council gave
assent to the tune of up to $12,750 for
plans at the arena whereby ice will be
provided for a summer hockey school for
a period of four to' six weekS''Under the
direction of Walter Tkaczuk, New York
Rangers forward. 'Assisting will be Jack
Egers and Don Luce of the Rangers with
Dan 1y Sequin of the Minnesota' 'North
Stars organization.

observed at Canadian Forces
Base Clinton during a candle-,
light "dinner and formal dance.
The events were attended by 200

The official address of wel-
come was delivered by Colonel
E. W. Ryan, Base Commander of
CFB Clinton. Greetings were
brought by Paul Cecile, Tecum-
seh, Ont., State Deputy of the
Ontario Knights of Columbus;
